COCAINE COWBOYS (TNT/WHT; W: Michelle Ashford; D: Mark Pellington) - Matt Barr (Parkland) has scored a role on the pilot, a drama set in the wild and unpredictable world of the Florida drug trade in the 1970s. He's on board as Julius Jackson, "the lifelong best friend of Bobby (Michael Stahl-David) and now his loyal partner in crime. Practical and straight-laced, Julius got into the drug trade after returning from Vietnam and struggling to make ends meet - and now it's too late to get out." Elizabeth Perkins, Kristen Hager, Kelsey Siepser, Adria Arjona and Oscar Jaenada also star. (Deadline.com)
COMMENTS SECTION (E!, New!) - Joel McHale ("The Soup") is developing a new series for the cable channel in which comedian Michael Kosta "tries to deconstruct the often snarky comments on popular websites." McHale and his Free Period producing partner, Jason Burns, will executive produce the pilot alongside Pygmy Wolf Productions' K.P. Anderson with Kosta himself as a co-executive producer. CONVICTION (ABC, New!) - Jason Wilborn ("Damages") is developing a potential drama at the Alphabet inspired by the life of Kym Worthy, "the chief prosecutor of Wayne County, MI, known as the toughest woman in Detroit." ABC Studios is behind the hour with Martin Chase Productions' Debra Martin Chase, JuVee Productions' Viola Davis and Julius Tennon and Kim Swann and Leah Keith executive producing with Jeff Melvoin as showrunner, Wilborn co-executive producing, Charles Pugliese producing and Worthy herself as a consultant. EVIL MEN (USA/CBSP/UCP; W: Daniel Taplitz; D: Gary Fleder) - Parminder Nagra, Jessalyn Gilsig and Daniel Zolghadri have all been cast in the drama pilot, about Harry Killas (Dallas Roberts), an upstanding, middle-class family man whose life is turned upside down when he is approached by a frighteningly powerful entity and commanded to kill evil men or see his family - along with his city - utterly destroyed; however, the gleeful psycho (Clifton Collins Jr.) who is meant to be his first target, instead begins teaching him how to carry out his new destiny. Nagra will play "Harry's compassionate and strong wife Sarah who is initially unaware of the titanic stresses and strains that are tearing her husband apart and begins to worry that he's having an affair"; with Gilsig as Adela, "an Assistant District Attorney with the city of Los Angeles, an incisive pragmatist whose powerful ambition may only be trumped by her loyalty to Harry"; and Zolghadri as Sarah and Harry's son Max. OUTSIDERS (WGN; W: Peter Mattei; D: TBA) - Kyle Gallner (American Sniper) has boarded the upcoming drama, about a struggle for power and control set in the rugged and mysterious hills of Appalachia. He'll play Hasil, "a man with a deep wisdom and intense emotional presence, which allows him to be able to look into people's souls and see so much more than anyone else." Thomas M. Wright also stars. (Deadline.com)
PARIAH (FX/FXP; W: Bill Burr, Dave Chernin & John Chernin; D: Rob McElhenney) - Regina King ("The Strain") has been cast in the comedy pilot, about Joe Abbott (Bill Burr), a volatile TV personality who, after an on-air meltdown, is exiled from show business and forced to navigate society as a man with no apparent skills. No details about her character were given. (Deadline.com)
QUEEN OF THE SOUTH (USA/FTVS; W: M.A. Fortin & Joshua John Miller; D: Charlotte Sieling) - Justina Machado ("Welcome to the Family") has joined the cast of the drama pilot, about Teresa Mendoza (Alice Braga), a woman who, when her drug-dealing boyfriend is unexpectedly murdered in Mexico, is forced to go on the run and seek refuge in America, where she teams with an unlikely figure from her past to bring down the leader of the very drug trafficking ring that has her on the run. She'll play Brenda, Teresa's best friend, "a woman who is bubbly and energetic despite her boyfriend's involvement in the drug trade. She narrowly escapes with her life when her boyfriend gets targeted for crossing the boss." (Deadline.com)
