Development Update: Thursday, April 7
By The Futon Critic Staff (TFC)

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The latest development news, culled from recent wire reports:

Looking to keep track of all the various projects in development? Click here to visit our signature "Devwatch" section. There visitors can view our listings by network, genre, studio and even development stage (ordered to pilot, cast-contingent, script, etc.). It's updated every day!

BOTCOP (FOX/20th; W: Geoff Barbanell & Itai Grunfeld; D: TBA) - Christopher Meloni, Donald Faison, John Leguizamo, Katy Mixon and Kate Mulgrew have all signed onto the animated pilot presentation, about "a half-man, half-robot cop who in 1985 was considered the cutting-edge of law enforcement. Today, his dial-up Internet and fax machine have become as irrelevant as he is. Fired from the LAPD, Botcop takes a minimum wage job as a guard in a fancy gated community and moves in with his patrol partner - a single dad in need of help, even if it's from an arrogant cyborg who is unaware that his best days are behind him." Meloni will voice the title role; with Faison as his patrol partner, Wally Dubin, "a single dad with two adopted kids, Reuben (Leguizamo) and Lulu (Mixon)"; and Mulgrew as their boss Janice Pinny, "who fought four tours in Iraq and now fights to keep her sanity." (THR.com)

STILL STAR-CROSSED (ABC/ABCS; W: Heather Mitchell; D: Michael Offer) - Grant Bowler ("Defiance") has scored a role on the drama pilot, a sequel to "Romeo & Juliet" that follows the conflict between the Capulets and the Montagues in the wake of Romeo and Juliet's deaths. He'll play Lord Montague: "he is hot but scary, rugged, a ruthless and brilliant man hellbent on raising his family's fortunes, no matter the cost." (Deadline.com)

UNTITLED JONBENET RAMSEY PROJECT (CBS, New!) - Tom Forman is developing an unscripted anthology series at the Eye which would focus on a different case each season, the first being the JonBenet Ramsey murder case, a 6-year-old beauty pageant regular killed 20 years ago. The untitled project "will reunite the original investigators in the Ramsey case as well as new experts who all re-examine the unsolved case from 20 years ago." Critical Content is producing. AND IN OTHER NEWS... - "Training Day" executive producer Antoine Fuqua has inked a first-look deal with The Weinstein Co. (THR.com); and Melissa McCarthy will reprise her role of Sookie St. James in Netflix's "Gilmore Girls" revival (TVLine.com).
