BARRY (HBO; W: Alec Berg & Bill Hader; D: Bill Hader) - Stephen Root is the latest to be cast in the comedy pilot, about an ex-Marine (Bill Hader) who works as a low-rent hitman in the Midwest; lonely and dissatisfied in his life he begrudgingly travels to Los Angeles to kill someone and ends up finding an accepting community in a group of eager hopefuls within the L.A. theater scene. He'll play Fuches, "a lawyer who arranges Barry's hits." (Deadline.com)
AND IN OTHER NEWS... - Drew Barrymore has been tapped as narrator on NBC's upcoming dating series "First Dates" (Deadline.com); Johnny Depp and Richard Branson are among the auspices behind a potential limited series based on Rick Hall's autobiography "The Man from Muscle Shoals: My Journey from Shame to Fame" (Deadline.com); "How to Get Away with Murder" star Viola Davis has inked an overall deal with producer ABC Studios for her JuVee Productions banner (Deadline.com); Sylvester Stallone is attached to star as mob boss Raymonde Aprile in director Antoine Fuqua and writers Justin Herber and Adam Hoff's proposed TV adaptation of Mario Puzo's final novel "Omerta" from The Weinstein Company (Deadline.com); and writer Matt Charman and director Kevin MacDonald are likewise looking to bring Michel Faber's "The Book of Strange New Things" to the small screen with Left Bank Pictures and Amazon in advanced talks (Deadline.com).
