JUSTIN BIEBER TO PERFORM ON THE '2016 AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS(R)'

The Live Broadcast Will Air Sunday, November 20, at 8:00 p.m. EST on ABC

dick clark productions and ABC announced today that international megastar Justin Bieber will perform during the "2016 American Music Awards" from his Purpose tour in Zurich, Switzerland, delivering his signature style to audiences across the world. He joins hosts Gigi Hadid and Jay Pharoah, as well as previously announced performers including James Bay, Fifth Harmony, Lady Gaga, Green Day, Niall Horan, John Legend, Bruno Mars, Shawn Mendes, Twenty One Pilots, The Weeknd, special duets from The Chainsmokers and Halsey, Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj, Maroon 5 with Kendrick Lamar, and "The American Music Award of Merit" honoree and performer Sting. The "2016 American Music Awards," the world's biggest fan-voted award show, will broadcast live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 20, at 8:00 p.m. EST on ABC.

The "2016 American Music Awards" will be Justin Bieber's sixth time performing on the AMA's stage. He is a 15-time American Music Award nominee and eight-time winner. This year, he is nominated for Video of the Year, Favorite Male Artist - Pop/Rock, Favorite Album - Pop/Rock, Favorite Song - Pop/Rock and the top honor, Artist of the Year. Global superstar Bieber released his latest Def Jam album, "Purpose," on November 13, 2015. "Purpose" opened at No. 1 in over 100 countries around the world, and has gone on to sell over 10 million copies to date. "Purpose" shattered global streaming records and has yielded three consecutive No. 1 singles in the US - "What Do You Mean," "Sorry" and "Love Yourself." In late 2015, those three tracks landed at No. 1, 2 and 3 on the UK singles chart, surpassing a record previously held by The Beatles and making Bieber the first artist to ever accomplish such a feat. In February, Justin won his first Grammy: Best Dance Song for the "Purpose" track "Where Are You Now." Justin Bieber was recently named the first artist to reach 10 Billion views on VEVO. In 2014, Justin was ranked by Twitter as the top most tweeted about musical artist of the year. He has released five No. 1 albums to-date and has starred in two films, "Never Say Never" (2011) and "Believe" (2013). In 2011, he was nominated for the Best New Artist Grammy. In 2013, Bieber received a Diamond award from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) to recognize his single "Baby" as the best-selling digital song of all-time with over 10 million copies sold.

The nominations for the "2016 American Music Awards" were announced last month, revealing that Drake leads with 13 nominations, while Rihanna received seven and Adele and Justin Bieber received five nominations each. Beyoncé and The Chainsmokers each received four nominations. Additionally, Bryson Tiller, Twenty One Pilots, Carrie Underwood, Fetty Wap and The Weeknd earned three nominations each.

The Artist of the Year nominees are Adele, Beyoncé, Justin Bieber, Drake, Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande, Rihanna, Twenty One Pilots, Carrie Underwood and The Weeknd. The ten nominees were narrowed to five based on the votes received through Monday, November 14 at 5:00 a.m. PST. Voting for Artist of the Year will close on Thursday, November 17, at 8:59:59 p.m. PST. The winner will be determined by the total votes received throughout the entire voting period.

New Artist of the Year Un-leashed by T-Mobile nominees are Alessia Cara, The Chainsmokers, DNCE, Shawn Mendes and Zayn. Voting for this category is now open and will close Sunday, November 20, at 5:59:59 p.m. PST.

At the American Music Awards, artists will be honored in multiple musical genres. Pop/Rock, Alternative Rock, Country, Rap/Hip-Hop, Soul/R&B, Adult Contemporary, Contemporary Inspirational, Latin, EDM and Soundtrack, are some of the genres alongside the awards for Artist of the Year, New Artist of the Year Un-leashed by T-Mobile and Collaboration of the Year. This year, new categories include Tour of the Year and Video of the Year, while Favorite Song categories in the genres of Pop/Rock, Country, Rap/Hip-Hop and Soul/R&B have been added in lieu of the Song of the Year category.

American Music Awards nominees are based on key fan interactions as reflected in Billboard Magazine and on Billboard.com, including album and digital song sales, radio airplay, streaming, social activity and touring. These measurements are tracked by Billboard and its data partners, including Nielsen Music and Next Big Sound.

The American Music Awards winners are voted entirely by fans. Voting is now closed in all categories other than Artist of the Year and New Artist of the Year Un-leashed by T-Mobile.

Fans can vote for Artist of the Year once per day, per voting platform. For New Artist of the Year Un-leashed by T-Mobile, fans can vote 100 times per day, per voting platform.
