DRUG LORD FERRY BOUMAN FROM "UNDERCOVER" GETS HIS OWN FILM ON NETFLIX

Frank Lammers and Elise Schaap will star in the film about Ferry Bouman's early years

Amsterdam, 17 June, 2020 - Netflix announced today that Frank Lammers and Elise Schaap - who made success as Ferry and Danielle in Undercover - will star together in the new feature film Ferry, about the drug lord's early years. The film will have all the elements Undercover fans are used to: suspense, surprising plot twists, emotion and humor.

The story starts in 2006 in the city of Amsterdam. Ferry Bouman works for drug lord Ralph Brink, a powerful criminal and Ferry's mentor. One day the gang is brutally mugged and Ralph's son is severely injured. When all leads point to a group of campers in Brabant, Ferry is sent out to find the perpetrators. After years of absence, Ferry returns to his beloved Brabant, which he had fled many years before. The difficult reunion with his estranged family, the return to the camper life he had forsaken and the meeting with his charming neighbor Danielle all gradually crawl under Ferry's skin. His journey will lead to unexpected outcomes and put Ferry's loyalty to the test...

Frank Lammers: "Ferry is back - again! It is unbelievable that there is going to be a Netflix feature film about Ferry Bouman. It feels a bit like a dream come true. I am really looking forward to it and I think it is great that we can now take the fans back to the early days". Elise Schaap: "I am very proud to be part of this new Netflix feature film. It is going to be so exciting to go back to the beginning when Danielle and Ferry first met. We are really looking forward to it."

Lina Brouneus, Director of Co-Production & Acquisition at Netflix: "We are immensely proud to announce our latest feature film: Ferry. After the great success of Undercover season 1, we felt the fans needed more of Ferry and Danielle. We are very excited to continue our investment in great local content and work with De Mensen to bring the story to life''.

"The success of Undercover and the way in which our viewers have embraced Ferry, Danielle and John is everything a creator can hope for." said Nico Moolenaar, creator and showrunner at production company De Mensen. "We are proud that Netflix is giving us the chance to tell Ferry's background story, how he met Danielle and how Ferry ended up on the campsite long before there were any undercover agents snooping around in his life." Pieter Van Huyck, executive producer: "The huge success of Undercover in the Netherlands surprised us, but made us truly happy. We are big fans of origin stories of iconic characters. The genre works and it's a fantastic way to add more layers to already intriguing characters."

Undercover-showrunner Nico Moolenaar has written the script together with Bart Uytdenhouwen. Cecilia Verheyden (Undercover 2, wtFOCK) will be directing the movie. Ferry is produced by Nico Moolenaar, Pieter Van Huyck and Ivy Vanhaecke. Ferry is a movie from Flemish production company De Mensen for Netflix, in cooperation with Gardner and Domm and Gallop and supported by Screen Flanders and the Tax Shelter measure from the federal government.
