FX Extends Deal with The New York Times

Orders Additional Documentary Films Under The New York Times Presents Banner

Award-Winning, Impactful Films Already Include Framing Britney Spears, Nominated for Two Emmy(R) Awards and a TCA Award, and The Killing of Breonna Taylor

Eighth Film from The New York Times Presents About E-Cigarette Giant Juul Coming in September

LOS ANGELES, July 27, 2021 - FX has extended its partnership with The New York Times by ordering additional documentary films under The New York Times Presents banner, it was announced today by Nick Grad, President, Original Programming, FX Entertainment.

The New York Times Presents features a series of standalone documentary films powered by the unparalleled journalism and insight of journalists at The New York Times, bringing viewers close to the essential stories of our time.

"Framing Britney Spears" received Emmy(R) Award nominations for Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Special and Outstanding Picture Editing for a Nonfiction Program, as well as a TCA Award nomination for Outstanding Achievement in News and Information. The film continues to generate intense interest, public debate and to capture the pop culture zeitgeist. The New York Times Presents also won the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding News/Information (Series or Special) for "The Killing of Breonna Taylor."

"The New York Times Presents continues to deliver some of the most compelling and timely news and feature documentaries on television, typified by the outstanding work on 'Framing Britney Spears' and 'The Killing of Breonna Taylor,'" said Grad. "Each individual film reflects the expertise of the reporters and filmmakers, and FX's commitment to fully exploring these and future stories with The New York Times, Left/Right and the rest of the creative team."

Jason Stallman, executive producer of The New York Times Presents, said: "The New York Times is thrilled to continue our partnership with FX. Their savvy, creative team has been invaluable in helping our newsroom expand its documentary ambitions. Our goals and mission are aligned in creating films that are truly distinctive, surprising viewers with new perspectives and bringing them stories that have impact across the world."

The eighth film from The New York Times Presents is scheduled to air in September on FX and Hulu: "Move Fast and Vape Things." Juul was built on a promise to help millions of Americans kick their cigarette habit. A New York Times investigation reveals how this Silicon Valley darling lost its way and is now accused of bringing a new scourge to a whole new generation: vaping.

The New York Times Presents hails from the same team responsible for the FX and Hulu docuseries The Weekly, which won four News & Documentary Emmy Awards, an Overseas Press Club award, and its reporting on how a predatory lending scheme had corrupted the taxi industry in New York and elsewhere was part of a body of work that was awarded the Pulitzer Prize.

Mary Robertson, executive producer and showrunner, said: "We are enormously proud of this collaboration, and are honored to continue to marry rigorous New York Times journalism with best-in-class documentary filmmaking."

The New York Times Presents is produced by The New York Times and Left/Right, a Red Arrow Studios company. Executive producers are Ken Druckerman, Banks Tarver, Mary Robertson, Jason Stallman, Sam Dolnick and Stephanie Preiss.

With more than 1,700 journalists who have reported from over 160 countries since 2019, The Times publishes about 150 pieces of journalism each day, including exclusive reporting on topics ranging from politics to culture to climate to sports to business. The New York Times Presents will continue to tell those stories in a visual and unforgettable way.
