FOR ALL MANKIND (Apple TV+) - Co-creators Matt Wolpert and Ben Nedivi have signed a multi-year overall deal with the show's producer Sony Pictures Television. (Deadline.com)
FRANCHISE, THE (HBO, New!) - Armando Iannucci and Sam Mendes are set to team for a new pilot at the pay channel which "follows a hopeful crew trapped inside the dysfunctional, nonsensical, joyous hellscape of franchise superhero movie-making. If and when they finally make the day, the question they must face - is this Hollywood's new dawn or cinema's last stand? Is this a dream factory or a chemical plant?" Jon Brown, Marina Hyde, Keith Akushie, Pippa Harris, Nicolas Brown and Julie Pastor will also executive produce for Dundee Productions and Neal Street Productions. The pilot story was by Brown, Akushie and Iannucci and the pilot was written by Brown and Akushie, with Mendes attached to direct. (Deadline.com)
STREET OUTLAWS: FASTEST IN AMERICA (Discovery) - Ryan Fellows, one of the featured show's drivers, has died while filming the series. "The Street Outlaws family is heartbroken by the accident that led to the tragic death of Ryan Fellows," a spokesperson said in a statement. "We extend our deepest sympathy to Ryan's loved ones as they process this sudden and devastating loss." (Deadline.com)
TINY BEAUTIFUL THINGS (Hulu) - Sarah Pidgeon and Tanzyn Crawford have both been cast in the Cheryl Strayed adaptation, which has also tapped Rachel Lee Goldenberg to direct the first two episodes. Pidgeon will play Young Clare, "the younger version of the lead character, played by Hahn. Rebellious and sharp-tongued, she acts out irresponsibly after her mother's death and endures a contentious but maternal relationship with her younger brother, Lucas." And Crawford portrays Rae Kincade, "the queer teenage daughter of a white mother, Clare (Kathryn Hahn), and a black father, Danny (Quentin Plair), in mid marital crisis. Uncomfortable in her own skin and often emotionally torn between her parents, Rae shows artistic leanings, though she's an introvert of few words, just starting to develop her own opinions and making sense of who she is in the world." (Deadline.com)
WILL TRENT (ABC) - The Alphabet has ordered the Ramón Rodríguez-led drama pilot to series, based on Karin Slaughter's bestselling books of the same name. Paul McGuigan directed the pilot from a script by Liz Heldens and Dan Thomsen with Slaughter and Oly Obst also executive producing for 20th Television. Rodríguez stars as Will Trent, with Erika Christensen as Angie Polaski, Iantha Richardson as Faith Mitchell, Jake McLaughlin as Michael Ormewood and Sonja Sohn as Amanda Wagner. (Deadline.com)
