MATLOCK (CBS) - David Del Rio and Leah Lewis have both been cast in the Kathy Bates-led reboot series pilot. Del Rio plays Billy, "a charismatic young associate a few years out of law school and assigned to work on one of the firm's biggest cases. He helps Matty navigate her new work environment as he seemingly knows more than he should." And Lewis is Sarah, "a Junior Associate eager to get ahead and not worried about being liked. Sarah is all ambition, determined to be seen for her smarts and willing to do anything to move up a peg at the firm. She is not pleased when she's forced to work alongside Matty, lowering her position at the company even further." (Deadline.com)
OVERTIME (ABC, New!) - David E. Tabert has sold a single-camera comedy to the Alphabet in which "a celebrated NBA star retires and returns home to play positions he's managed to avoid throughout his twelve-year career... Father. Husband. Neighbor. Friend. He's been pampered his entire adult life, followed the perfect game plan to great success. Now, away from the spotlight and left to his own devices, he's facing his toughest opponent yet... himself." Lyn Sisson-Talbert and Jim Miller of Golden Alchemy Entertainment will also executive produce alongside Warren Littlefield with Courtney Lilly in negotiations. (Deadline.com)
PUBLIC DEFENDERS (ABC) - Anthony Anderson is set to star in and executive produce the single-camera comedy pilot as the public defenders' boss Marshall: "He has seen every kind of public defender come through his office, and now that he's a deputy-in-charge, he sees it as his responsibility to transform his deputies into cutthroat defense attorneys. Marshall's hard line is revealed to be tough love, as he's deeply protective of them." Additionally, Liz Astrof is set as showrunner while Randall Einhorn will direct from a script by creator Eddie Quintana. Wonderland Sound and Vision's McG, Mary Viola and Corey Marsh and Artists First's E. Brian Dobbins executive produce alongside said group for 20th Television. (Deadline.com)
RESIDENCE, THE (Netflix) - Randall Park and Spencer Garrett are both bound for the Shonda Rhimes-produced series. Park will play FBI Special Agent Edwin Park while Garrett will recur as FBI Director Wally Glick. (Deadline.com)
TWAS' THE NIGHT (Disney+, New!) - David E. Tabert is likewise developing a musical anthology series at the streamer in which "Santa Claus, now retired to civilian life, indulges his grandchildren in their favorite family tradition, sharing stories of his magical adventures. Only this year, they're not interested in the ones with happy endings. This year, they insist he tell them about that One Night, that one fabled night, where everything went wrong. And the One Family who made it right." Lyn Sisson-Talbert and Jim Miller of Golden Alchemy Entertainment will also executive produce alongside Becky Hartman Edwards. (Deadline.com)
