8 FIGHTS: THE LIFE OF MUHAMMAD ALI (Peacock) - Kevin Willmott is spearheading an eight-part event series based on Jonathan Eig's definitive biography of boxing great Muhammad Ali: "Each episode will be framed by one fight from Ali's life, but the essence of the episode, what it's really about, is the internal fight - the drama outside the ring - where we will explore the struggle going on in the heart and mind of one of the most consequential and controversial figures of the 20th century." CBS Studios, Universal Content Productions and Revelations Entertainment are behind the project, which was previously set up at CBS All Access in 2018 under writer Dan Kay. Morgan Freeman, Lori McCreary, Regé-Jean Page and Emily Brown are also executive producing while Eig will receive a producer credit. (Deadline.com)

KAISER KARL (Disney+) - Daniel Brühl has been tapped to star as late fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld in the six-part series. Also starring are Théodore Pellerin as Jacques de Bascher; Arnaud Valois as Yves Saint Laurent; Alex Lutz as Pierre Bergé; Agnès Jaoui as Gaby Aghion; Sunnyi Melles as Marlene Dietrich; Jeanne Damas as Paloma Picasso; Claire Laffut as Loulou de la Falaise; and Paul Spera as Andy Warhol. Production is underway with Jérôme Salle and Audrey Estrougo directing three installments each. Isaure Pisani-Ferry, Jennifer Have and Raphaëlle Bacqué created the project with Gaumont's Isabelle Degeorges and Jour Premier's Arnaud de Crémiers executive producing. (Variety.com)
LIONESS (Paramount+) - Bassem Youssef will guest on the Taylor Sheridan series as Amrohi, "a rags-to-riches billionaire businessman with ties to terrorism, building his own fortune by legitimate means before profiteering off the wars that destroy the Middle East he's spent decades helping to rebuild." MADNESS, THE (Netflix) - The Colman Domingo-led limited series has cast Marsha Stephanie Blake as Elena Daniels, "the mother of Muncie's 15-year-old son"; Gabrielle Graham as Kallie, "the adult daughter of Muncie"; John Ortiz as Franco Quinones, "a longtime FBI field agent with strong convictions and a relentless approach to his work"; and Tamsin Topolski as Lucie Snipes, "a woman at a crossroads in her life who has to choose between right and wrong." RESIDENCE, THE (Netflix) - The upcoming Shondaland mystery series has tapped the following actors to recur: E.L. Losada as energy healer St. Pierre; Matt Oberg as deputy calligrapher Nick Simms; Ryan Farrell as socialite Lorenzo Motta; and Alexandra Siegel as socialite Valentina Motta. (Variety.com)
UNTITLED CHASE & FIDELL PROJECT (FX, New!) - David Chase and Hannah Fidell are set to team for a top secret drama at the cable channel and FX Productions, "based on a previously unproduced script of Chase's, with a contemporary take by Fidell." Fidell will also direct the project, which has a pilot commitment, with Chase Films' Nicole Lambert also executive producing. (THR.com)
