PARAMOUNT+ ANNOUNCES "DE LA CALLE" TO PREMIERE NOVEMBER 7
Hosted by Journalist Nick Barili, New Docuseries Explores Evolution of Latin Music and Its Influence on Culture Worldwide
Produced by MTV Entertainment Studios, Zero Point Zero Production
And Hard Knock TV
October 5, 2023 - Paramount+ today announced that all eight episodes of the new docuseries DE LA CALLE will premiere exclusively on the service Tuesday, November 7, in the U.S. and Canada and on Wednesday, November 8, in the U.K., Australia, Latin America and Brazil with further international markets to follow at a later date.
DE LA CALLE premiered at the 2023 Tribeca Festival and is executive produced, co-created and hosted by award-winning journalist Nick Barili. During the course of the series, Barili unites Latino urban music from the U.S. to Panama, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Spain and beyond. The series takes a journey into the Latine diaspora to explore and map the evolution of Urbano music and cultures that ignited the musical revolution of Rap, Reggaeton, Bachata, Latin trap, Cumbia and other sounds that influence music and culture worldwide. From perreo to political issues to the stories of rebellion, Barili engages with musicians, cultural icons and fascinating characters who will reveal the story of Urbano music, its history and its significance today.
"As a first-generation immigrant who learned how to speak English through Hip Hop at Malcolm X Elementary, I grew up straddling two worlds, speaking English at school and Spanish at home," said Nick Barili, co-creator and host. "I was influenced by El General and Calle 13 as much as E-40 and Outkast. DE LA CALLE was created to explore how the seeds from the street that inspired Hip Hop are also present throughout Latin America and Spain. Going to the neighborhoods where El Movimiento was created, talking to the pioneers who were actually there, sharing the origin stories of superstars of today and tomorrow, I'm thrilled to have Paramount+ and MTV Entertainment Studios as partners to bring DE LA CALLE to the world."
"As a company that has been sharing global stories for the past 20 years, we are honored to be involved in a series that amplifies the immense impact of Latin music and artists on mainstream music and culture," said Craig H. Shepherd, EVP at Zero Point Zero Production.
DE LA CALLE features interviews with artists such as Fat Joe, N.O.R.E., Residente, Mala Rodriguez, Nicky Jam, Nicki Nicole, Villano Antillano, Sech, Goyo, Nathy Peluso, Santa Fe Klan, Jessie Reyes, Feid, Aleman, Gente De Zona, Aczino, Princess Nokia, Kombilesa Mi, Renato and many more.
DE LA CALLE is executive produced by Nick Barili for Hard Knock TV, Christopher Collins, Lydia Tenaglia, Craig H. Shepherd and Jared Andrukanis for Zero Point Zero Production, Bruce Gillmer and Amanda Culkowski for MTV Entertainment Studios and Picky Talarico.
