A&E ANNOUNCES THREE NEW HIGH PROFILE DOCUMENTARY PROJECTS "SCOTT PETERSON: THE NEW EVIDENCE," "THE GOTTI FILES," AND "JOHNNY CASH: THE MAN COMES AROUND," FEATURING EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEWS AND NEVER-BEFORE-SEEN FOOTAGE COMING IN 2026 AND 2027
NEW YORK, NY - March 4, 2026 -A&E has greenlit three new documentary projects that expand the network's slate of premium nonfiction programming with fresh perspectives on high profile cases, enduring legacies, and cultural icons that continue to resonate today. From "Scott Peterson: The New Evidence," which examines compelling, newly uncovered evidence that could reshape the understanding of a notorious case, to an intimate, multigenerational look inside the Gotti family told by John Gotti's son and grandson in "The Gotti Files," and "Johnny Cash: The Man Comes Around" which uses a 1981 robbery at Cash's Jamaican home to illuminate his faith, empathy, and lifelong pursuit of justice through his own words and those closest to him, each project offers unprecedented access and insight into stories audiences think they know.
"These projects exemplify A&E's continued commitment to powerful, character-driven storytelling that goes beyond the headlines to offer deeper context and new perspectives," said Elaine Frontain Bryant, Executive Vice President & Head of Programming, A&E and Lifetime. "Whether it's reexamining a case that continues to provoke debate, offering unprecedented access to a legendary crime family through the voices of the next generation, or exploring an iconic artist's life through a moment that revealed his faith, empathy, and moral compass, each project invites viewers to see familiar stories in deeper ways."
"Scott Peterson: The New Evidence" - Four-Hour Documentary Special Premiering Summer 2026
A recent bombshell petition introduced new evidence that could undermine the prosecution's narrative of the murders of Laci and Conner Peterson more than twenty years after their tragic deaths. What happened on Christmas Eve 2002 remains fiercely debated - and this new filing argues new evidence proves it was impossible for Scott Peterson to have committed the crimes against his wife and unborn son. Veteran defense attorney and ABC News legal consultant, Chris Pixley, conducts his own in-depth examination of the new evidence for a meticulous analysis of the timeline and other crucial details. This two-night special scrutinizes both sides of the case, uncovering startling revelations and revisiting the most vexing questions about what really happened to Laci and Conner.
"Scott Peterson: The New Evidence" is produced for A&E by Left/Right with Banks Tarver, Ken Druckerman, Pete Ross and Maija Norris serving as executive producers. Chris Pixley serves as Consulting Producer. Elaine Frontain Bryant and Brad Abramson serve as executive producers for A&E. A+E Global Media holds worldwide distribution rights to "Scott Peterson: The New Evidence."
"The Gotti Files" - Eight-Hour Documentary Series Premiering Early 2027
Anchored by exclusive interviews with John Gotti Jr. and his son John Gotti III, "The Gotti Files" pulls back the curtain on one of the most powerful and polarizing families in American history. Using rare home movies, hundreds of hours of prison and wiretap audio and video, court documents, and unprecedented access, the series traces the rise, fall, and enduring legacy of John Gotti Sr. and the Gambino Family. Spanning three generations, the series explores themes of family, loyalty, and survival with a particular focus on John Gotti III's determination to forge his own path outside the shadow of a world-famous name, as well as the powerful influence of matriarch Kim and the Gotti daughters, who championed love, education, and an alternative future. The series also examines how government may have played a role in shaping the Gotti narrative, raising questions about power, media and government manipulation, and the cost of becoming a target in one of the most aggressive eras of American law enforcement. Each episode focuses on a pivotal moment in the Gotti family saga, revealing how honor, identity, and legacy have weighed heavily on their personal journeys.
"The Gotti Files" is produced by Propagate Content and Lady Moon Entertainment for A&E. Executive producers for Propagate Content are Ben Silverman, Howard Owens, Drew Buckley, Isabel San Vargas and Jack Katkavich. Bryan O'Connell and David Michael serve as executive producers for Lady Moon Entertainment. Rory Karpf serves as showrunner and executive producer of the series. "Johnny Cash: The Man Comes Around" - Two-Hour Documentary Event Premiering 2027
From Oscar-nominated filmmaker Dana Adam Shapiro (Murderball), "Johnny Cash: The Man Comes Around" is an intimate family portrait, a true crime thriller, and a revelatory deconstruction of the Man in Black, examining the legendary artist through his profound connection to the island of Jamaica. With exclusive access to a treasure trove of personal archival, the documentary investigates the 1981 Christmas Day home invasion during which the Cash family was held hostage by masked gunmen at their home in Cinnamon Hill. This unknown story is told for the first time by Cash himself, in never-before-heard audio recordings, alongside rare photos, home video, and interviews with his son John Carter Cash, who was present during the robbery, as well as family members Rosanne Cash and Carlene Carter, and musicians and collaborators including Lyle Lovett, Steve Earle, and Will Oldham. The documentary reframes the harrowing incident as a defining moment that deepened Cash's humanist worldview, illuminating a lifelong exploration of crime and punishment, salvation and sin, and ultimately offering a portrait of a complex American icon who always spoke truth to power - and grace for all.
