ALAN OPTS OUT (HBO, New!) - Emily Kapnek has landed a series adaptation of Courtney Maum's novel at the network: "In it, after losing the biggest account of his career and his grip on reality, visionary ad man Alan Anderson decides to "live off the land" of his suburban Connecticut backyard in a comedy about the sticker price of privilege and one man's determination to find his way back to a life less transactional." The proposed comedy will also be executive produced by Maum, Bill Lawrence, Jeff Ingold, and Liza Katzer for Doozer Productions and Warner Bros. Television. (Deadline.com, 7/30)

CABLE GUY, THE (Hulu) - Crystal Fox has boarded the film-turned-TV series pilot as Lynette, "Steven (Damon Wayans Jr.), and Gina's (Natasha Rothwell) mother, who is concerned that her son is adrift after his break-up and finds herself going down various social media rabbit holes." CHICAGO FIRE (NBC) - Dermot Mulroney's Dom Pascal and Joe Miñoso's Joe Cruz won't return as regulars for the series' upcoming 15th season. Both however will guest star to wrap their respective storylines. (Deadline.com, 7/31)
DETECTIVE AGENT DEREK (Hulu, New!) - Nick Kreiss, Julian Bonosconi, and Griffin Poole are set to team for an animated project at the streamer: "Detective Agent Derek is billed as a prestige cop show filtered through the internet's weirdest subcultures. Every episode is structured like a serious crime drama - tackling murders, conspiracies, criminal organizations - but the lens is warped: Derek is a nunchuck-wielding, anime-obsessed neckbeard who should never be taken seriously... and yet the world treats him as an alpha savior." Spencer Rich will executive produce alongside the trio for their Big Grey Mass banner, as will Douglas Banker and Conor Welch. (Deadline.com, 7/28)
HOUSE OF FATES (Disney+, New!) - The streamer has commissioned a "Battle of Fates" spin-off series: "House of Fates will see fans of the mystical-themed unscripted series taken to destinations believed to hold powerful spiritual energy and experiencing ceremonies, local traditions and dining events connected to Korea's spiritual heritage." LAST WEEK TONIGHT WITH JOHN OLIVER (HBO) - John Oliver has signed "a 12-month deal with the cable network, keeping Last Week Tonight on air until the end of 2027." His current pact was up at the conclusion of its current 13th season in November. (Deadline.com, 7/31)
MEMORY OF A KILLER (FOX) - Natalie Zea and Meta Golding are both bound for the show's second season. Zea will recur as Olivia, "a brilliant, ambitious, yet sensitive businesswoman who always insisted on forging her own way - and she has, in ways no one yet suspects." And Golding joins the cast as Mel, "Angelo's (Patrick Dempsey) childhood sweetheart. A Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative journalist who has spent her career diving headfirst into the world's darkest corners - and has the scars to prove it." (Deadline.com, 7/30)
NEWLYWEDS (NBC) - Emma Meisel, Ignacio Diaz-Silverio, and Bill O'Neill have joined the cast of the newcomer toplined by Téa Leoni and Tim Daly. Meisel and Diaz-Silverio will play Poppy and Lolo, respectively: "They are Jeanie's kids (Leoni), with Lolo being adopted." O'Neill then is set as Arvid, "who is James' assistant (Daly) in the philosophy department at the University of Oslo." It's unclear if said actors played the roles in the original pilot. PITT, THE/UNACCUSTOMED EARTH/UNTAMED (Various) - John Wells has signed a three-year extension to his overall deal with Warner Bros. Television, taking him through mid-2030. (Deadline.com, 7/27)

REACHER (Amazon) - Season five of the series has cast Jay Baruchel as Chief Buck Bauer; Kevin Durand as Nokes; Amanda Ip as Michelle Chang; and Ciara Bravo as Eunice. No other details were given. (Deadline.com, 7/29)

THIS IS BIRMINGHAM (Amazon, New!) - The streaming service is developing a TV series based on the U.K. film: "This Is Birmingham is a visceral crime drama that fuses hard-hitting action with raw, emotional storytelling. Set in the savage depths of the UK's most brutal underworld, the film plunges viewers into a world of perilous, uncharted ground." Filmmaker/star Kay S. Ubhi is behind the project, with Michael L. THUNDER ROAD (AMC) - Shane McRae has scored a role on the NASCAR-themed series as Scooter Jakes, "whip-lean, weathered, and predator-calm. Scooter Jakes is a veteran of the NASCAR circuit. He's a cornerstone of Whitlock Racing Team as crew chief to Trey in the legendary #28 car - and as one of the only people Duane (Dennis Quaid) wants alongside him at crunch time." (Variety.com, 7/29)
UNTITLED ATSUKO OKATSUKA PROJECT (Amazon, New!) - Comedian Atsuko Okatsuka is attached to star in a proposed half-hour at the streamer about "modern marriage." Okatsuka and Josh Rabinowitz are co-writing the project with Hiro Murai and Ramy Youssef also executive producing for Super Frog, Cairo Cowboy, and Entertainment 360. (Deadline.com, 7/28)
WARHAMMER 40,000 (Amazon) - Writer/director Mike Flanagan is in talks to spearhead the project's live-action adaptation starring Henry Cavill. (Deadline.com, 7/28)
WILDWOOD (FX, New!) - Lisa McGee has sold a new comedy to the network: "Wildwood is set in the summer of 2000 and follows a group of Irish college girls who descend on the neon playground that is Wildwood, New Jersey. WONDER MAN (Disney+) - The streamer has rescinded its season two order for the Marvel Studios series. According to said report, "a writers' room for Season 2 was never opened and the show's writers have been released to pursue other projects." Additionally, "while "Wonder Man" is not proceeding with Season 2, the characters featured in the series could still appear in other Marvel projects in the future." (Variety.com, 7/30)
