[06/23/06 - 12:00 AM] Comedy Central Revives 'Futurama,' Showtimes K.O.s 'Huff' By Brian Ford Sullivan (TFC) |
|
LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- Comedy Central is giving "Futurama" a second life as the cable channel has inked a deal with 20th Century Fox Television to produce at least 13 new episodes of the 1999-2003 animated series.
Said installments will air along with the show's off-network run on Comedy Central, set to begin sometime in 2008. Said deal, signed back in October of 2005, is valued at an impressive $400,000 per episode, nearly triple the estimated $10 million Cartoon Network paid for the show back in 2002. It's not clear how much Comedy Central will pay for the new episodes.
Series regulars Billy West, Katey Sagal and John DiMaggio and creators Matt Groening and David X. Cohen are all expected to return for the new installments.
And in other cable developments, Showtime has opted not to move forward with a third season of its critically-acclaimed drama "Huff." The series, which wraps its sophomore run on Sunday, has earned seven Emmy nominations including a win for co-star Blythe Danner. The decision is said to be the result of the show's still sub par ratings. Just 372,000 viewers tuned into its second season bow on April 2, a drop of 18.42% from its original November 2004 launch (456,000).
