Mad Men Premiere Week Propells AMC to Top Ten Status

Network Viewing Atmosphere Couples Original Series Premiere with Key Movies, Providing Consistent Ratings Success Through Out the Week

July 24, 2007 - New York, New York - In a week that brought AMC the largest amount of Emmy nominations in basic cable and the premiere of its first original scripted series, Mad Men, the network announced today that it also achieved top ten rating status for the week in various key demographics, including #7 in A25-54, #7 in M25-54, #8 in households, #8 in M18-49 and #9 in HH Rtg. The Mad Men premiere week continues the network's newly adopted programming strategy, which uniquely couples quality cinematic television with top iconic films. The viewing environment created last week brought unprecedented daily success with 5 movie titles performing over a 1.1 HH rating in primetime.

For Thursday evening, the premiere of Mad Men coupled with the network's premiere of Goodfellas, helped AMC rank as the #4 cable network in HH Ratings for the night, delivering an average 1.3 HH RTG in primetime and giving it the #1 network upscale HH RTG ($100K+). Mad Men as a stand alone provided the network with a 1.4 HH RTG on Thursday night, which is +75% above its Thursday night's average. In addition, the premiere brought significant gains to the network's targeted prime demos, providing a 46% increase in A25-54, a 56% increase in M25-54 and a 32% in W25-54.

"Between our Emmy nomination, the premiere of Mad Men and now these final rating numbers, it has been a truly historic week for AMC," stated Charlie Collier, General Manager and EVP for AMC. "We had very clear and specific set of expectations for Mad Men, both as a series and how it can best serve the network as a whole, and we have surpassed them all. In an era where content priorities now consist of reality programming, game shows, wrestling and procedural reruns, AMC has built a unique original programming vision focused on quality. No one in cable can couple cinematic originals with our library of enduring iconic movies and last week provided a glimpse of the unique way we can serve the marketplace. We are very pleased with what we saw last week and we look forward to the coming weeks, where we will continue to building off these successes."

Mad Men was developed by the network and created by Emmy Award-winning executive producer and writer of "The Sopranos" Matthew Weiner. Set in 1960 New York, the one hour drama received tremendous critical acclaim heading into its premiere, chronicling the lives of the ruthlessly competitive men and women of Madison Avenue advertising, an ego-driven world where key players make an art of the sell while their private world gets sold.
