Wednesday Night (8:00-11:00 p.m.)

ABC delivered a convincing victory on the final Wednesday of the 2007 November Sweep among Adults 18-49, leading its nearest competition on the evening by 29% (4.5/11 vs. 3.5/9 - CBS). Delivering a clean sweep on the evening across all key demographic categories, the Net also ranked No. 1 on the night with Adults 25-54 (5.0/12), Adults 18-34 (3.8/11), Teens 12-17 (2.7/9) and Kids 2-11 (5.1/19).

For the 3rd consecutive November Sweep, ABC ranked No. 1 in the key Adult 18-49 sales demo (3.8/10), defeating second-place CBS for the month by 9% (3.5/9), third-place NBC by 15% (3.3/8) and fourth-place Fox by 19% (3.2/8). Making this year's November victory even more impressive was the fact that ABC did not air "Lost" on its schedule this fall, as it had in previous years.

ABC claimed the Top 2 TV shows on Wednesday in viewers and young adults with "Shrek the Halls" and "Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas," respectively. In fact "Shrek the Halls" (11.7/34) and "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" (11.6/33) delivered the Top 2 highest-rated Kids 2-11 primetime telecasts on the broadcast networks in over 7 years since 8/23/00, excluding Super Bowls.

"Shrek the Halls" (8:00-8:30 p.m.)

ABC's debut airing of "Shrek the Halls" towered above its time period competition to rank as Wednesday's No. 1 TV show in Total Viewers (21.1 million) and Adults 18-49 (7.2/20). In fact among Adults 18-49, "Shrek the Halls" beat its combined CBS, NBC and Fox competition in the half-hour by 22% (7.2/20 vs. 5.9/16).

"Shrek the Halls" drew ABC's largest audience in the time period in 1 year, its top non-sports Adult 18-49 number in nearly 2 years and its highest Kids 2-11 rating in close to 13 years since 11/15/06, 1/12/05 and 1/25/95, respectively.

"Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas" (8:30-9:00 p.m.)

The animated holiday classic "Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas" ranked as the No. 2 TV show of the evening in Viewers (18.7 million) and Adults 18-49 (6.8/17), behind only its lead-in. In its half-hour, "Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas" overshadowed its closest competitors, leading the slot by 9.3 million viewers (NBC's "Christmas in Rockefeller Center" = 9.4 million) and by 162% in Adults 18-49 (CW's "America's Next Top Model" = 2.6/7).

"How the Grinch Stole Christmas" generated ABC's top viewer and young adult numbers in the time period in 1 year and its highest Kids 2-11 rating in more than 13-1/2 years since 11/15/06 and 4/13/94, respectively.

In its second year airing on ABC, "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" jumped by 7.7 million viewers and by 74% in Adults 18-49 from the prior year (11.0 million & 3.9/11 on 12/12/06).

"Pushing Daisies" (9:00-10:00 p.m.)

Up against a season-high performance for CBS' "Criminal Minds," ABC's special 9 o'clock airing of "Pushing Daisies" took second place among Total Viewers (10.2 million) and Adults 18-49 (3.8/9), pacing well ahead of third-place Fox's "Kitchen Nightmares" (7.0 million & 3.3/8) and NBC's "Bionic Woman" (6.0 million & 2.2/5). "Daisies" ranked No. 1 in the hour among Adults 18-34 (3.4/9-tie), Teens 12-17 (2.3/7) and Kids 2-11 (3.2/12).

Receiving strong additional sampling in its special time period, "Pushing Daisies" marked a best-since-debut Adult 18-49 rating (on 10/3/07), while hitting series highs with Adults 18-34, Teens 12-17 and Kids 2-11.

"Dirty Sexy Money" (10:00-11:00 p.m.)

Taking second to CBS' veteran "C.S.I.: NY," ABC's "Dirty Sexy Money" topped its freshman drama competition during the 10 o'clock hour, NBC's "Life," by 13% in Total Viewers (7.1 million vs. 6.3 million) and by 18% in Adults 18-49 (2.6/7 vs. 2.2/6). The new ABC series ranked No. 1 in its time period among Women 18-34 (3.3/9).

"Dirty Sexy Money" was up week to week by 11% in Viewers and by 30% in Adults 18-49 (6.4 million and 2.0/6 on 11/21/07).

A note about increasing DVR penetration and year to year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating trends based on the Live + Same Day data stream may be somewhat distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has more than doubled from 10% at this time last year up to more than 21% currently. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. Therefore, the only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.
