CBS Posts Year-to-Year Gains in Viewers and Maintains Year-Ago Demos

"Ghost Whisperer" Delivers its Largest Audience Since 2006

CBS won its fourth consecutive week of the season in viewers, placed second in adults 18-49 (tie) opposite World Series-driven FOX and was the only network to maintain or improve year ago deliveries in viewers, adults 18-49 and adults 25-54, according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings for the week ending Oct. 26, week five of the 2008-2009 television season.

CSI was the week's top program in viewers and adults 25-54 as CBS had 5 of the Top 10 programs including NCIS (#3), THE MENTALIST (#7), CRIMINAL MINDS (#8) and TWO AND A HALF MEN (#10). NCIS has now finished in the top five in all five weeks of the season while freshman hit THE MENTALIST has placed in the top 10 for its fourth consecutive broadcast.

For the week in viewers: CBS (11.35m), FOX (10.88m), ABC (9.96m) and NBC (6.10m). Season-to-date, CBS is first in viewers (11.65m), ahead of ABC (10.39m), FOX (8.30m) and NBC (7.59m).

For the week in households: CBS (7.2/12), FOX (6.7/11), ABC (6.4/10) and NBC (3.9/06). In households, season-to-date: CBS (7.4/12), ABC (6.7/11), FOX (5.1/08) and NBC (4.8/08).

For the week in key demographics: CBS was second behind baseball driven FOX in adults 25-54 (3.9/10) and tied for second in adults 18-49 (3.0/08, with ABC). Compared to the same week last year, CBS was up +2% in viewers and even in households, adults 25-54 and adults 18-49. Season-to-date, CBS is first in both adults 25-54 and adults 18-49.

CBS Weekly Highlights:

-- On Monday, CBS was first in adults 25-54 (4.7/11), adults 18-49 (3.9/10), second in households (7.4/11) and viewers (11.72m). CBS has placed first in both adults 25-54 and adults 18-49 for five consecutive Mondays.

THE BIG BANG THEORY was tied for first in adults 18-34 (2.5/07, with ABC), second in households (5.8/09), viewers (9.33m), adults 25-54 (4.1/10) and adults 18-49 (3.5/09).

? HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER was first in adults 18-34 (3.1/08), second in households (5.8/09), viewers (9.45m), adults 25-54 (4.5/10) and adults 18-49 (4.0/10).

? TWO AND A HALF MEN was first in adults 25-54 (6.2/13), adults 18-49 (5.1/12), second in both households (8.9/13) and viewers (14.63m).

? WORST WEEK was first against the time period's programs in viewers (9.88m), second in households (6.3/09), adults 25-54 (3.9/08) and adults 18-49 (3.2/07). For the second consecutive week, WORST WEEK topped "Samantha Who?" in both adults 25-54 (vs. 3.4/07, +15%) and adults 18-49 (vs. 2.7/06, +19%) and for the first time this season topped "Samantha Who?" in viewers (vs. 9.64m, +2%).

? CSI: MIAMI was first in households (8.9/15), viewers (13.51m), adults 25-54 (4.8/12) and adults 18-49 (3.8/10).

-- On Tuesday, CBS was first in households (9.3/15), viewers (14.71m), second in adults 25-54 (4.5/11) and adults 18-49 (3.2/09). CBS has won all five Tuesdays this season in viewers.

? NCIS won its time period in households (10.7/17), viewers (17.23m), finished second in adults 25-54 (5.1/13) and adults 18-49 (3.6/10).

? THE MENTALIST was tied for first in adults 25-54 (4.8/11, with ABC), second in households (9.6/14), viewers (15.28m) and delivered a 3.4/09 in adults 18-49. THE MENTALIST has finished first in its time slot in adults 25-54 for three consecutive broadcasts. Compared to the last week, THE MENTALIST was up +2% in both households (from 9.4/14) and adults 25-54 (from 4.7/11), even in adults 18-49 and added +340,000 viewers (from 14.94m, +2%).

? WITHOUT A TRACE won its time period in households (7.7/13), viewers (11.63m), finished second in adults 25-54 (3.7/09) and adults 18-49 (2.6/07). Compared to the last episode, WITHOUT A TRACE was up +5% in households (from 7.3/12), +9% in adults 25-54 (from 3.4/09), +4% in adults 18-49 (from 2.5/07) and added +580,000 viewers (from 11.05m, +5%).

-- CBS was second Wednesday behind the World Series Game #1 on FOX in households (7.9/13), viewers (12.35m), adults 25-54 (4.6/11) and adults 18-49 (3.5/09).

? THE NEW ADVENTURES OF OLD CHRISTINE was second behind FOX's World Series coverage in households (5.1/08), viewers (7.76m), adults 25-54 (3.1/08) and adults 18-49 (2.4/07). THE NEW ADVENTURES OF OLD CHRISTINE posted season highs in viewers, adults 25-54 and adults 18-49. Compared to last week, THE NEW ADVENTURES OF OLD CHRISTINE was up +11% in adults 25-54 (from 2.8/08), +9% in adults 18-49 (from 2.2/06), added +150,000 viewers (from 7.61m, +2%) and matched last week's household delivery.

? GARY UNMARRIED was second in households (5.0/08), viewers (7.56m), adults 25-54 (3.2/08) and adults 18-49 (2.5/07). GARY UNMARRIED built on its lead in by +3% in adults 25-54 and +4% in adults 18-49. GARY UNMARRIED posted series highs in viewers, adults 25-54 and adults 18-49. Compared to last week, GARY UNMARRIED was up +7% in adults 25-54 (from 3.0/07), +9% adults 18-49 (from 2.3/06), added +30,000 viewers (from 7.53m) and matched last week's household delivery.

? CRIMINAL MINDS was first in households (9.5/14), viewers (15.01m), adults 25-54 (5.5/13) and was second behind FOX's World Series coverage in adults 18-49 (4.1/10).

-- On Thursday, CBS was first in households (9.1/14), viewers (14.97m), adults 25-54 (5.6/13) and adults 18-49 (4.3/11). This is CBS's third consecutive Thursday night win in these measures.

? SURVIVOR: GABON was first in households (7.8/12), viewers (13.31m), adults 25-54 (5.4/13) and adults 18-49 (4.4/12). This is SURVIVOR's largest audience since February 7, 2008 (premiere of SURVIVOR: MICRONESIA). Compared to last week's episode, SURVIVOR: GABON was up +4% in adults 25-54 (from 5.2/13), +5% in adults 18-49 (from 4.2/12), even in households and added +500,000 viewers (from 12.81m, +4%).

? CSI: CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION won its time period for the third consecutive week in households (11.7/17), viewers (19.49m) and adults 25-54 (7.1/16). CSI was first adults 18-49 (5.5/13) for the second time in three weeks. Compared to last week, CSI was up +6% in adults 18-49 (from 5.2/13), even in adults 25-54 and added +210,000 viewers (from 19.28m, +1%). CSI was the night's top program in households, viewers and adults 25-54 for the third consecutive week, first in adults 18-49 for the second time in three weeks.

? ELEVENTH HOUR was second behind FOX's World Series coverage in households (7.8/13), viewers (11.85m), adults 25-54 (4.1/10) and third in adults (3.1/08, -0.1 behind NBC). ELEVENTH HOUR has improved its competitive position against "ER" for the second consecutive week with adults 18-49. On Oct.9th, ELEVENTH HOUR trailed "ER" by -0.7; Oct. 16th ELEVENTH HOUR trailed "ER" by -0.4. Last night, the difference was just -0.1. -- On Friday, CBS was first in households (5.3/09), viewers (8.27m), adults 25-54 (3.0/08) and adults 18-49 (2.1/07). This is CBS's fourth straight Friday win in households, viewers, adults 25-54 and adults 18-49.

? GHOST WHISPERER was first in households (6.3/11), viewers (10.14m), adults 25-54 (3.7/11) and adults 18-49 (2.6/09). This is GHOST WHISPERER's largest audience since Feb. 16, 2006, best adults 25-54 performance since Jan. 11,2008.

? NUMB3RS won its time period in households (6.0/11), viewers (9.33m), adults 25-54 (3.2/09) and adults 18-49 (2.3/07). This is NUMB3RS best delivery in households, viewers and adults 18-49 since May 16, 2008 (season finale), in adults 25-54 since May 2, 2008. NUMB3RS was up +5% in households (from 5.7/10), +10% in both adults 25-54 (from 2.9/08) and adults 18-49 (from 2.1/07) while adding +650,000 viewers (from 8.68m, +8%).
