Sunday Primetime (7:00-11:00 p.m.)

Opposite a strong NFL game on NBC's "Sunday Night Football" (Vikings-Bears) and CBS with another big primetime NFL overrun (Broncos-Jets), ABC won Sunday evening across each of the key Women demos: W18-34 (3.9/10), W18-49 (4.8/11) and W25-54 (5.5/12). In fact the Net tallied its 10th consecutive Sunday this season at No. 1 in Women 18-49. ABC outpaced its non-sports competition on the evening, Fox, with its "animation domination" lineup by nearly 6 million viewers (11.5 million vs. 5.6 million) and by 54% in Adults 18-49 (3.7/9 vs. 2.4/6).

ABC drew its largest Sunday night audience (11.5 million) in 5 weeks since 10/26/08.

For its 9th straight telecast this season, ABC's "Desperate Housewives" stood as Sunday's most-watched entertainment program. "Housewives" marked its 8th time in 9 broadcasts this season as Sunday's highest-rated entertainment series with Adults 18-49.

"America's Funniest Home Videos" (7:00-8:00 p.m.)

Taking second place in the 7 o'clock hour to CBS' NFL overrun in Total Viewers (8.9 million) and Adults 18-49 (2.3/6), ABC's "America's Funniest Home Videos" attracted its biggest audience since its season premiere since 10/5/08. "AFV" stood as the No. 1 broadcast program in its hour with Kids 2-11 (2.4/7), posting its highest-rated telecast in 10 months since 2/10/08.

"Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" (8:00-9:00 p.m.)

Surging from its lead-in, "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" topped its entertainment competition in the time period on Fox ("The Simpsons"/"King of the Hill") by 4.0 million viewers (11.2 million vs. 7.2 million) and by 13% in Adults 18-49 (3.6/8 vs. 3.2/7). "Home Edition" won its time period among Women 18-34 (3.5/9) and Women 18-49 (4.3/10), ranking No. 1 in the hour for the 8th time in 9 telecasts this season on the latter measure.

"Desperate Housewives" (9:00-10:00 p.m.)

The evening's No. 1 entertainment telecast, ABC's "Desperate Housewives" was the dominant entertainment choice in its 9 o'clock time slot in Total Viewers (15.6 million) and Adults 18-49 (5.6/12), overshadowing CBS' "Amazing Race"/ "Cold Case" combo by 4.0 million viewers and by 75% in Adults 18-49 (11.6 million & 3.2/7) and Fox's animated comedies by 9.4 million viewers and by 93% in Adults 18-49 ("Family Guy"/"American Dad" 6.2 million & 2.9/6).

"Brothers & Sisters" (10:00-11:00 p.m.)

Competing against NBC's "Sunday Night Football," ABC's "Brothers & Sisters" ranked No. 1 during Sunday's 10 o'clock hour its 9th consecutive telecast this season in key Women: W18-49 (4.8/11) and W25-54 (5.6/13). Continuing to rank as the No. 1 non-sports show in the slot among young adults, "Brothers & Sisters" defeated its CBS drama competition in the hour ("Cold Case"/"The Unit") by 25% in Adults 18-49 (3.5/8 vs. 2.8/7).

A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating comparisons based on the Live + Same Day data stream are distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped up to more than 28% currently, from 21% at the same point in 2007. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.
