"The Tonight Show," "Late Night" Continue Dominance Over CBS, ABC Timeslot Competition

Leno, Fallon Easily Win Week of Jan. 27-31 With Biggest Audiences in Years

UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. - Feb. 6, 2014 - "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" and "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" have dominated the broadcast competition for the week of Jan. 27-31.

Leno delivered his biggest overall audience and 18-49 viewership since 2010 and Fallon generated his biggest 18-49 audience since 2010 and top overall viewership since 2009.

For the week, Leno averaged 1.418 million adults 18-49 - his biggest 18-49 audience since the week of Nov. 22-26, 2010 (Thanksgiving, 1.422 million) - and 4.989 million viewers overall - The Tonight Show's" top total-viewer result since March 1-5, 2010 (Leno's first week back, 5.585 million).

Fallon averaged 932,000 adults 18-49 last week, the biggest 18-49 viewership for the show since Sept. 6-10, 2010 (with an NFL overrun, 952,000). In overall viewers, "Late Night" garnered 2.380 million persons, its highest average since May 25-29, 2009 (the final week before Conan O'Brien took over "Tonight" hosting duties from Leno, 2.468 million).

At 1:35 a.m. ET, "Last Call with Carson Daly" generated its biggest 18-49 audience (508,000) since the week of Nov. 4-8, 2013 (520.000) and biggest overall audience (1.113 million) since Sept. 5-9, 2011 (with an NFL overrun, 1.116 million).

Versus the same week last year, Leno and Fallon were both up by double-digit percentages in every key ratings category.

"The Tonight Show" was up 31% in viewers 18-49 (to 1.418 million from 1.081 million) and up 33% in total viewers (4.989 million vs. 3.745 million). "Late Night" was up 38% in 18-49 (932,000 vs. 677,000) and up 30% in total viewers (2.380 million vs. 1.832 million).

"Last Call with Carson Daly" grew versus the same week last year by 29% in viewers 18-49 (508,000 vs. 393,000) and by 15% in total viewers (1.113 million vs. 972,000).

For the week, "The Tonight Show" and "Late Night" delivered bigger audiences than their ABC and CBS time-period rivals in every key ratings category - adults, men and women, 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54, plus total viewers.

Note that Tuesday's "Late Show with David Letterman," "Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson," and "Jimmy Kimmel Live" are excluded due to news coverage overruns. Friday's "Kimmel" and Monday through Wednesday's "Late Late Show" were encores.

Season to date, Leno is delivering his highest 18-49 viewership 19 weeks into a TV season in three years and it's the biggest season for "Tonight" in total viewers in five years. Fallon is at a four-year high at this point in the season in viewers 18-49. In total viewers, Fallon is delivering his top total-viewer average at 19 weeks into the season in the five years he's been hosting "Late Night."

Versus the first 19 weeks of the year-ago season, Leno is up 10% in 18-49 viewers (with 1.158 million vs. 1.057 million) and up 11% in total viewers (3.948 million vs. 3.570 million). Fallon is up 20% in 18-49 viewers (815,000 vs. 682,000) so far this season and up 17% in total viewers (2.012 million vs. 1.719 million).

"Last Call with Carson Daly" is also delivering sizable gains versus the first 19 weeks of last season, up 19% in 18-49 viewers (436,000 vs. 365,000) and up 11% in total viewers (975,000 vs. 877,000).

"Tonight" has now delivered bigger 18-49 audiences than "Late Show" for the last 63 weeks in a row and topped "Kimmel" for 52 of their 56 head-to-head weeks. In total viewers, Leno has out-delivered "Late Show" for 67 weeks in a row and "Kimmel" for 56 of 56 weeks.

Fallon has now generated bigger 18-49 audiences than "Late Late Show" for 68 of the last 69 weeks and prevailed in total viewers for 65 of the last 67 weeks. Versus "Nightline" in their head-to-head half-hour, Fallon has out-delivered the ABC series for 56 of 56 weeks in viewers 18-49 and 52 of 56 weeks in total viewers.
