Friday's Broadcast Ratings: NBC Tops the Holiday with "Macy's 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular"

Here are the highlights of the 13 ad-sustained programs that aired in primetime on the broadcast networks last night (7/4/14):

NBC (5.030 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 1.0, #1) was the top holiday draw on Friday thanks to its presentation of "Macy's 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular" (5.341 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 1.1, #1) followed by an abbreviated encore of "Macy's 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular" (4.408 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 0.9, #2).

The silver then went to ABC (3.396 million viewers, #T2; adults 18-49: 0.7, #2) with its mix of "Shark Tank" (3.168 million viewers, #6; adults 18-49: 0.6, #T4), "Primetime: What Would You Do?" (2.874 million viewers, #7; adults 18-49: 0.6, #T4) and "20/20" (4.147 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 0.8, #3).

Next up was CBS (3.396 million viewers, #T2; adults 18-49: 0.4, #3) with repeats of "Undercover Boss" (2.523 million viewers, #8; adults 18-49: 0.4, #T6), "Hawaii Five-0" (3.305 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.4, #T6) and "Blue Bloods" (4.361 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 0.4, #T6).

Meanwhile, FOX (1.086 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 0.3, #4) offered up encores of "MasterChef" (1.328 million viewers, #9; adults 18-49: 0.4, #T6) and "24: Live Another Day" (0.844 million viewers, #12; adults 18-49: 0.2, #12).

And finally, repeats of "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" (0.944 million viewers, #11; adults 18-49: 0.3, #T10), another "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" (0.975 million viewers, #10; adults 18-49: 0.3, #T10) and "Reign" (0.454 million viewers, #13; adults 18-49: 0.1, #13) closed out the night on The CW (0.707 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.2, #5). In the netlet's target demo (women 18-34), "Whose Line" posted a 0.3 rating at 8:00/7:00c and 0.2 rating at 8:30/7:30c while "Reign" managed a 0.1 rating.

In late-night metered market ratings (via NBC's press release):

· In Nielsen's 56 metered markets, household results were: "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," 2.0/5 with an encore telecast; CBS's "Late Show with David Letterman," 1.6/4 with an encore; and ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live," 1.7/4 with an encore.

· In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, adult 18-49 results were: "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," 0.7/3 with an encore; "Late Show," 0.3/1 with an encore; and "Jimmy Kimmel Live," 0.5/3 with an encore.

· From 12:35-1:05 a.m. ET, ABC's "Nightline" averaged a 1.1/3 in metered-market households and a 0.3/2 in 18-49 in the Local People Meters.

· From 12:35-1:35 a.m. ET, "Late Night with Seth Meyers" (1.0/3 in metered-market households with an encore) beat CBS's "Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson" (0.9/3 with an encore). In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, "Late Night" (0.4/3 in 18-49 with an encore) topped "Late Late Show" (0.2/1 with an encore).

· At 1:35 a.m., "Last Call with Carson Daly" averaged a 0.6/2 in metered-market households with an encore and a 0.2/2 in adults 18-49 in the 25 markets with local people meters.


Here are the highlights of the 12 ad-sustained programs that aired in primetime on the broadcast networks one year ago (7/5/13):

NBC (4.611 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.1, #T1) and ABC (4.268 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.1, #T1) split the demo crown on Friday as the former offered up repeats of "Siberia" (2.611 million viewers, #8; adults 18-49: 0.6, #T8) and "Dateline NBC" (5.612 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.3, #1).

The Alphabet then offered up its own rebroadcasts of "Shark Tank" (4.689 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 1.1, #2), "Primetime: What Would You Do?" (3.908 million viewers, #7; adults 18-49: 1.0, #T3) and "20/20" (4.208 million viewers, #6; adults 18-49: 1.0, #T3).

Next up was CBS (4.938 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 0.7, #3) and its repeat mix of "Undercover Boss" (4.362 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.8, #T5), "Blue Bloods" (4.760 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 0.6, #T8) and another "Blue Bloods" (5.692 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 0.8, #T5).

Meanwhile, FOX (1.889 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 0.5, #4) served up second runs of "Bones" (2.555 million viewers, #9; adults 18-49: 0.7, #7) and "The Following" (1.222 million viewers, #10; adults 18-49: 0.4, #10).

And finally, a new "Cult" (0.714 million viewers, #11; adults 18-49: 0.2, #T11) and a second new "Cult" (0.459 million viewers, #12; adults 18-49: 0.1, #T11) on The CW (0.586 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.2, #5) closed out the night. In the netlet's target demo (women 18-34), "Cult" delivered a 0.3 rating at 8:00/7:00c and a 0.2 rating at 9:00/8:00c.
