Wednesday's Broadcast Ratings: NBC Tops Close Competition

Here are the highlights of the 10 ad-sustained programs that aired in primetime on the broadcast networks last night (8/3/16):

NBC (6.353 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 1.2, #1) was still the top draw on a competitive Wednesday with new episodes of "America's Got Talent" (7.165 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 1.3, #2) and "The Night Shift" (4.731 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 0.8, #5).

ABC (5.535 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.1, #T2) then was a close second with its annual "CMA Music Festival: Country's Night to Rock" (5.535 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.1, #T3).

FOX (3.707 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.1, #T2) likewise was in the hunt with its expanded two-hour "MasterChef" (3.707 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 1.1, #T3).

Meanwhile, CBS (3.669 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 1.0, #4) offered up its trio of "Big Brother 18" (5.783 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.8, #1), "Criminal Minds" (2.700 million viewers, #6; adults 18-49: 0.6, #6) and "American Gothic" (2.524 million viewers, #7; adults 18-49: 0.5, #7).

And finally, new episodes of "Penn & Teller: Fool Us" (1.414 million viewers, #8; adults 18-49: 0.4, #T8), "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" (1.372 million viewers, #9; adults 18-49: 0.4, #T8) and a repeat "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" (1.235 million viewers, #10; adults 18-49: 0.4, #T8) closed out the night over on The CW (1.358 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.4, #5).

· In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, adult 18-49 results were: "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," 0.7/4; "Late Show," 0.4/2; and "Jimmy Kimmel Live," 0.6/3.

· From 12:35-1:05 a.m. ET, ABC's "Nightline" averaged a 1.2/4 in metered-market households and a 0.4/3 in 18-49 in the Local People Meters.

· From 12:35-1:35 a.m. ET, "Late Night with Seth Meyers" (1.0/4 in metered-market households) tied CBS's "Late Late Show" (1.0/3). In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, "Late Night" (0.3/2 in 18-49) topped "Late Late Show" (0.2/2).

· At 1:35 a.m., "Last Call with Carson Daly" averaged a 0.6/3 in metered-market households and a 0.2/2 in adults 18-49 with an encore in the 25 markets with local people meters.


Here are the highlights of the 16 ad-sustained programs that aired in primetime on the broadcast networks one year ago (8/5/15):

NBC (5.258 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.3, #1) was the demo champ on a competitive Wednesday with its mix of "America's Got Talent" (6.879 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 1.4, #T2), the premiere of "Mr. Robinson" (4.596 million viewers, #7; adults 18-49: 1.2, #5), a second "Mr. Robinson" (3.786 million viewers, #9; adults 18-49: 1.0, #6) and "Last Comic Standing" (4.704 million viewers, #6; adults 18-49: 1.4, #T2).

CBS (5.397 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 1.2, #2) then was a close second with its combination of "Big Brother 17" (6.590 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 2.1, #1), "Extant" (4.728 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.8, #T9) and another "Extant" (4.872 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 0.8, #T9).

Next up was FOX (3.858 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.1, #3) and its duo of "MasterChef" (4.824 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 1.4, #T2) and "Home Free" (2.891 million viewers, #14; adults 18-49: 0.8, #T9).

Meanwhile, ABC (3.312 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 0.8, #4) offered up repeats of "The Middle" (3.943 million viewers, #8; adults 18-49: 0.7, #13), "The Goldbergs" (3.146 million viewers, #12; adults 18-49: 0.6, #14), "Modern Family" (3.435 million viewers, #10; adults 18-49: 0.9, #T7) and "Black-ish" (3.323 million viewers, #11; adults 18-49: 0.9, #T7) plus a new "Celebrity Wife Swap" (3.012 million viewers, #13; adults 18-49: 0.8, #T9).

And finally, the return of "America's Next Top Model" (1.173 million viewers, #15; adults 18-49: 0.4, #15) and the launch of "A Wicked Offer" (0.721 million viewers, #16; adults 18-49: 0.3, #16) on The CW (0.947 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.4, #5) closed out the evening. In the netlet's target demo (women 18-34), the former delivered a 0.4 rating while the latter posted a 0.3 rating.
