Wednesday's Broadcast Ratings: FOX Premieres Top Demos, CBS Leads in Total Viewers

Here are the highlights of the 15 ad-sustained programs that aired in primetime on the broadcast networks last night (9/27/17):

FOX (6.212 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 2.1, #1) was the demo champ on Wednesday thanks to the season premieres of "Empire" (6.940 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 2.4, #1) and "Star" (5.484 million viewers, #11; adults 18-49: 1.8, #T3).

CBS (8.273 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 1.5, #T2) then was the most-watched broadcaster with the respective bows of "Survivor: Heroes vs. Healers vs. Hustlers" (8.087 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.7, #5), "SEAL Team" (9.698 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 1.5, #7) and "Criminal Minds" (7.035 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.3, #T10).

Next up was ABC (5.756 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 1.5, #T2) with the season openers to "The Goldbergs" (6.068 million viewers, #7; adults 18-49: 1.8, #T3), "Speechless" (5.013 million viewers, #13; adults 18-49: 1.4, #T8), "Modern Family" (6.897 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 2.1, #2), "American Housewife" (5.625 million viewers, #10; adults 18-49: 1.6, #6) and "Designated Survivor" (5.467 million viewers, #12; adults 18-49: 1.1, #T12).

Meanwhile, NBC (5.970 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.3, #4) served up the season premiers of "The Blacklist" (6.202 million viewers, #6; adults 18-49: 1.1, #T12), "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" (5.669 million viewers, #9; adults 18-49: 1.4, #T8) and "Chicago PD" (6.040 million viewers, #8; adults 18-49: 1.3, #T10).

And finally, repeats of "Arrow" (1.270 million viewers, #14; adults 18-49: 0.3, #T14) and "Supernatural" (1.150 million viewers, #15; adults 18-49: 0.3, #T14) on The CW (1.210 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.3, #5) rounded out the night.

· From 12:35-1:05 a.m. ET, ABC's "Nightline" averaged a 1.2/4 in metered-market households and a 0.5/4 in 18-49 in the Local People Meters.

· From 12:35-1:35 a.m. ET, ratings were: "Late Night with Seth Meyers," 1.1/4 in metered-market households; CBS's "Late Late Show," 1.1/4. In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, averages were: "Late Night," 0.4/3 in 18-49; "Late Late Show," 0.2/2.

· At 1:35 a.m., "Last Call with Carson Daly" averaged a 0.7/3 in metered-market households and a 0.3/3 in adults 18-49 in the 25 markets with local people meters.


Here are the highlights of the 16 ad-sustained programs that aired in primetime on the broadcast networks one year ago (9/28/16):

FOX (8.319 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 2.8, #1) was the top draw on Wednesday thanks to week two of "Lethal Weapon" (7.054 million viewers, #6; adults 18-49: 1.9, #T4) and "Empire" (9.584 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 3.6, #1).

ABC (6.926 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.9, #2) then snagged the silver with its second week lineup of "The Goldbergs" (6.445 million viewers, #7; adults 18-49: 1.9, #T4), "Speechless" (6.396 million viewers, #8; adults 18-49: 1.8, #T6), "Modern Family" (7.341 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 2.3, #2), "Black-ish" (5.556 million viewers, #13; adults 18-49: 1.6, #9) and "Designated Survivor" (7.908 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 1.8, #T6).

Next up was CBS (8.111 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.7, #3) with a new "Survivor: Millennials vs. Gen X" (9.116 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 2.1, #3) followed by the return of "Criminal Minds" (8.871 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.8, #T6) and "Code Black" (6.348 million viewers, #9; adults 18-49: 1.2, #T12).

Meanwhile, NBC (5.896 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 1.4, #4) offered up originals from "Blindspot" (5.567 million viewers, #12; adults 18-49: 1.2, #T12), "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" (6.045 million viewers, #11; adults 18-49: 1.5, #T10) and "Chicago PD" (6.077 million viewers, #10; adults 18-49: 1.5, #T10).

And finally, a repeat "Penn & Teller: Fool Us" (1.604 million viewers, #14; adults 18-49: 0.4, #T14), the season finale of "Whose Line Is It Anyway?"
