Wednesday's Broadcast Ratings: FOX, "9-1-1" Edge Demo Race

Here are the highlights of the 15 ad-sustained programs that aired in primetime on the broadcast networks last night (1/17/18):

FOX (5.047 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.4, #1) was the demo champ in a tight demo race thanks to new episodes of "The X-Files" (3.938 million viewers, #12; adults 18-49: 1.1, #T9) and "9-1-1" (6.156 million viewers, #8; adults 18-49: 1.8, #T1).

NBC (6.447 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 1.3, #T2) then was a close second with originals from "The Blacklist" (6.522 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 1.1, #T9), "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" (6.190 million viewers, #6; adults 18-49: 1.4, #T5) and "Chicago PD" (6.631 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.4, #T5).

Sharing the silver was ABC (4.849 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 1.3, #T2) and its lineup of "The Goldbergs" (6.472 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 1.7, #3), "Speechless" (4.778 million viewers, #11; adults 18-49: 1.3, #T7), "Modern Family" (6.174 million viewers, #7; adults 18-49: 1.8, #T1), "American Housewife" (4.993 million viewers, #10; adults 18-49: 1.3, #T7) and "Match Game" (3.339 million viewers, #13; adults 18-49: 0.8, #13).

Meanwhile, CBS (6.356 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.2, #4) was also in the hunt with new episodes from "The Amazing Race 30" (6.842 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 1.5, #4), "SEAL Team" (6.634 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.1, #T9) and "Criminal Minds" (5.595 million viewers, #9; adults 18-49: 1.0, #12).

And finally, the return of "Riverdale" (1.447 million viewers, #14; adults 18-49: 0.5, #14) and "Dynasty" (0.643 million viewers, #15; adults 18-49: 0.2, #15) on The CW (1.045 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.4, #5) rounded out the night.

· In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, adult 18-49 results were: "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," 0.7/4; "Late Show," 0.7/4; and "Jimmy Kimmel Live," 0.6/3.

· From 12:35-1:05 a.m. ET, ABC's "Nightline" averaged a 1.2/4 in metered-market households and a 0.4/3 in 18-49 in the Local People Meters.

· From 12:35-1:35 a.m. ET, ratings were: "Late Night with Seth Meyers," 1.2/4 in metered-market households; CBS's "Late Late Show," 1.2/4. In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, averages were: "Late Night," 0.3/3 in 18-49; "Late Late Show," 0.3/3.

· At 1:35 a.m., "Last Call with Carson Daly" averaged a 0.8/3 in metered-market households with an encore and a 0.2/2 in adults 18-49 in the 25 markets with local people meters.


Here are the highlights of the 14 ad-sustained programs that aired in primetime on the broadcast networks one year ago (1/18/17):

ABC (4.506 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 1.3, #T1) and FOX (5.125 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.3, #T1) shared in the demo honors as the former served up a special "Fresh Off the Boat" (5.480 million viewers, #6; adults 18-49: 1.5, #T2) followed by a new "Speechless" (5.361 million viewers, #7; adults 18-49: 1.6, #1), a repeat "Modern Family" (4.530 million viewers, #10; adults 18-49: 1.3, #7) and originals from "Black-ish" (4.620 million viewers, #9; adults 18-49: 1.5, #T2) and "Match Game" (3.524 million viewers, #12; adults 18-49: 1.0, #11).
