'Nightline' Grows Year to Year Across the Board

Season to Date, 'Nightline' Reports Strongest Total Viewer and News Demo Performance in 3 Years

ABC News' "Nightline" ranked No. 1 in Total Viewers (913,000), Adults 25-54 (248,000) and Adults 18-49 (168,000) for the week of Oct. 16, 2023, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. "Nightline" took the top spot, beating CBS' "Comics Unleashed" and NBC's "Late Night with Seth Meyers" in Total Viewers and Adults 25-54 in all 4 weeks of the season.

"Nightline" delivered week-to-week increases in Total Viewers (+2% - 913,000 vs. 891,000), Adults 25-54 (+13% - 248,000 vs. 220,000) and Adults 18-49 (+3% - 160,000 vs. 155,000).

For the 2nd week in a row, "Nightline" posted gains on the same week last year in all key target demos: Total Viewers (+20% - 913,000 vs. 764,000), Adults 25-54 (+23% - 248,000 vs. 201,000) and Adults 18-49 (+7% - 160,000 vs. 149,000).

Season to date, "Nightline" ranks No. 1 in Total Viewers, Adults 25-54 and Adults 18-49, versus CBS' "Comics Unleashed" and NBC's "Late Night with Seth Meyers." In addition, "Nightline" is growing compared to the same point last season in Total Viewers (+8% - 967,000 vs. 895,000) and Adults 25-54 (+5% - 257,000 vs. 244,000), posting its strongest numbers in 3 years - since the 2020-2021 season.

This week, "Nightline" provided in-depth coverage of the Israel-Hamas war, including an interview with an experienced Israeli negotiator about what paths exist to safely free the nearly 200 hostages held in Gaza; Biden's meeting with Israeli leaders as violence in the region ramps up; the massive blast that struck a hospital in Gaza City; and also covered Joran van der Sloot admitting attacking Natalee Holloway; new footage and details revealed from Ruby Franke's arrest; Julia Fox candidly speaking about her stardom and struggles; "Impact x Nightline"'s report on the growing sextortion scams targeting teens boys around the country and more.

NOTE: On Friday (10/20/23), NBC's "Late Night with Seth Meyers" was retitled to "Late Night with Seth Meyers-SM" due to being a repeat. The retitled telecast is excluded from the weekly and season averages. NBC's weekly averages are based on four days (Monday-Thursday).
