Top 10 for Week of April 13-19
Trust Me: The False Prophet Leads the Way to No. 1
Plus: Thrash storms to the top for a second week, and Roommates moves into the Top 10.
Viewers put their trust in the docuseries Trust Me: The False Prophet last week, putting the series at No. 1 on the English TV list with 6.9 million views. Directed by Rachel Dretzin (Keep Sweet: Pray and Obey), the series provides unprecedented access to the would-be prophet Samuel Bateman in his fundamentalist Mormon community. The four-episode show highlights the heroic efforts of cult expert Christine Marie and videographer Tolga Katas, who gained the trust of Bateman's wives and children to collect evidence of his abuse for the FBI. Having survived her own polygamous cult, Marie felt compelled to move to Short Creek, Utah, to support the FLDS members who were left reeling after the arrest of Warren Jeffs.
Storming like a hurricane back to No. 1 on the English film list is shark-infested disaster thriller Thrash with 34.5 million views. Produced by Adam McKay and Kevin Messick (Don't Look Up), this soaking-wet movie sees expectant mother Lisa (Bridgerton's Phoebe Dynevor) caught in the storm surge of a Category 5 hurricane as ravenous sharks take advantage of the floodwaters. Djimon Hounsou (Rebel Moon) and Whitney Peak (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) also star as a marine researcher and an agoraphobic teen coming to Lisa's aid. The film's viral marketing has contributed to its staying power.
Crime comedy Big Mistakes climbed the English TV list last week to No. 3 with 4.4 million views. Dan Levy, co-creator, showrunner, and star of the series, plays Nicky, whose mother (Laurie Metcalf) insists he and his sister, Morgan (Taylor Ortega), bring a gift to their dying grandmother. So Morgan steals a seemingly cheap necklace from a shop display, which accidentally pulls them into the world of organized crime. XO, Kitty claimed the No. 4 spot on the list, earning 3 million views. In this third season of the young adult series, Kitty Song Covey (Anna Cathcart) navigates her senior year at a boarding school in South Korea - with the help of her older sister, To All the Boys I've Loved Before hero Lara Jean (Lana Condor).
Back with a sophomore outing is BEEF, which premiered at No. 10 on the list with 2.4 million views. The fashionable second season of the Emmy Award-winning anthology was scored by Finneas O'Connell and follows young couple Austin (Charles Melton) and Ashley (Cailee Spaeny) who work at an Ojai country club under their boss Joshua (Oscar Isaac) and his wife Lindsay (Carey Mulligan). The foursome becomes entangled in a battle of backstabbing and blackmail. Critics and fans are raving over the new season and its cast, calling it an "exquisite masterpiece."
Kids and family entertainment excited audiences of all ages with Salish & Jordan Matter landing at No. 2 on the English TV list with 5 million views. The popular father and daughter's outlandish challenges, celebrity guest appearances, and hilarious family antics prove why they've become so well loved. And this is only a preview of what's yet to come with original Salish and Jordan content on Netflix. Young explorers continue to dance and avoid lava with Danny Go!, putting the series at No. 9 with 2.5 million views. Viewers join Daniel Coleman for educational and interactive games with original songs and silly dance moves.
Survival stories won the week as French Caribbean thriller Bandi took the No. 1 spot on the non-English TV list with 5.2 million views. A Martinique family, the Lafleurs, must unite in the wake of their mother's death in order to keep all 11 siblings - aged 7 to 23 - financially stable and out of foster care. The elder siblings disagree about how best to stay afloat, legally or illegally - but none of them, including would-be criminal brother Kingsley (Rodney Dijon), know their 16-year-old brother Kylian (Djody Grimeau) is already a rising drug dealer operating under the moniker "Milord."
For a few laughs, audiences tuned in for Indian film Toaster, putting it at No. 1 on the non-English film list with 4.4 million views. This dark comedy follows miserly Ramakant (Rajkummar Rao) and his wife, Shilpa (Sanya Malhotra), who gift a very expensive toaster to a newlywed couple. But the newlyweds' marriage quickly dissolves, pushing Ramakant to obsess over getting the appliance - and his money - back.
The revenge thriller 180 debuted in the No. 2 spot on the English film list, collecting 9.5 million views. Prince Grootboom stars in the South African drama as Zak, an enraged father who spirals down a dark path after a road rage incident puts his son in critical condition. Roommates debuted in the No. 3 spot on the list, with 8.8 million views. The unhinged comedy stars Sadie Sandler and Chloe East as college freshmen who agree to live together, sparking a blossoming friendship that turns into a war of passive aggression and hilarious chaos.
The second season of Temptation Island launched at No. 8 on the English TV list with 2.5 million views. Mark L. Walberg hosts the reality series in which couples test their commitments by living with singles of the opposite sex. They must choose whether to remain with their original partner or chart a new path - alone or with a different lover.
Ronaldinho: The One and Only won the No. 2 spot on the non-English TV list, scoring 4.7 million views. The three-part Brazilian documentary follows the life and career of Brazilian soccer legend Ronaldo de Assis Moreira, tracking his journey from young prodigy to global sports icon. It revisits his victories and defeats, on and off the pitch.
The Italian dramedy Feel My Voice held the No. 2 spot on the non-English film list, to the tune of 3.5 million views. Sarah Toscano makes her acting debut as Eletta, a musically talented teen - and the only hearing member of a deaf family - who must choose between pursuing her dreams at a prestigious music school and staying behind to support her loved ones.
