DESCRIPTION:
(from TLC's web site, September 2008) Four would-be designers come together, from far and wide, to fulfill a dream. Whether they be the student fresh out of design school, the soccer mom who makes all her kids’ Halloween costumes and prom dresses, or the hipster from Venice Beach who makes his or her own clothes, they will all work and compete toward the same goal: design for a top celebrity and have their creation worn on the red carpet! The would-be designers will meet their celebrity client and be given their assignment (anything from a simple sexy cocktail dress to a fabulous couture gown). From our dream design studio in downtown Los Angeles Fashion District, the designers will conceive, design and deliver their one-of-a kind creations. Each contestant will be provided with the tools and direction necessary to succeed from our in-house seamstresses and design-savvy host. During the course of episode, the would-be designers will be narrowed down, from four to one, during several rounds that include sketching and pitching, shopping and design making, a showing, and finally a fitting. Each step of the way, these individuals will face real-life time and budget constraints that will add to the intensity and dramatic nature of the process. With input from their mentors (the celebrity client and host), the contestants will be critiqued, eliminated and directed toward a design worthy of the red carpet. At the end of each episode, the host and two finalists will wait anxiously at the Who Are You Wearing? red carpet for the celebrity to reveal their choice. The celebrity will walk from their fitting room dressed in their final choice of outfit – thus, selecting a winner!
