Video: TBS Gets New York Comic-Con Serious with Rashida Jones and the Cast of "Angie Tribeca"
Get a taste of TBS's first-ever police procedural.

[via press release from TBS]

TBS played both sides of the coin at New York Comic-Con on Friday. First came laughs in the form of Samantha Bee & Jason Jones, the creative force behind the new late-night show Full Frontal with Samantha Bee and the new scripted comedy The Detour. Then things got serious with a screening of TBS's first-ever police procedural, Angie Tribeca, followed by a powerful, in-depth panel session with Rashida Jones and the cast. Below are a few highlights from the two unforgettable events.

Angie Tribeca Sneak Peek and Panel Session with Rashida Jones & the Cast

TBS is getting serious this winter with the launch of the network's powerful new police drama Angie Tribeca. Following a screening of the show's tension-filled first episode, stars Rashida Jones, Jere Burns and Andree Vermeulen were joined by executive producer Ira Ungerleider for a ruthless grilling by To Catch a Predator's Chris Hansen. Here are some of the memorable highlights:

"This has always been my kind of comedy. Airplane is my all-time favorite movie. There's something magical about playing things really seriously that are really stupid." - Rashida Jones on why she loves starring in "Angie Tribeca"

"We approach this as the grittiest, most hardcore police drama ever. We try never to crack a smile." - Ira Ungerleider on how they maintain the tone of the show

"This was great for me, because I never watch anything I'm in. I had never seen it before just now, and I got to hear all of you guys laughing what sounded like your asses off. This show is full of really ridiculous, stupid, big situations, and we're playing them all very seriously." - Jere Burns on why he loved watching the show with fans at New York Comic-Con

"I was going to maybe take a little acting break because I had such a good run on a TV show called Parks and Recreation. But then Steve and Nancy Carell emailed me and sent me the script, and I immediately thought, 'How did Steve Carell get my email?'" - Rashida Jones on how she came to star in "Angie Tribeca"

"Steve and Nancy Carrell put this pilot together and Steve directed it. I got my dream phone call that said, 'Steve wants to meet you.' So I stopped making love to my wife and took it." - Ira Ungerleider on how he got involved with "Angie Tribeca"

"Steve Carell taught a class at Second City, and his wife was one of his students. They riff constantly at home. So they started riffing on this tough female cop named Angie Tribeca. They loved the sound of that name. They just kept saying it over and over and finally sat down to write the script." - Ira Ungerleider on how the show was born

"There's this new crop of detective procedurals now. So there are all these different new clichés, stereotypes and tropes to play on." - Ira Ungerleider on the material feeding "Angie Tribeca"

"I tried to dress like Dick Wolf today." - Ira Ungerleider shows off his cop-drama bona fides

"This is the best job I've ever had. I worked on the first three seasons of Friends as a writer, and this is the most fun I've ever had." - Ira Ungerleider

"TBS was really enthusiastic about the show and the tone. It's different from what's on network TV, so I think the show found the right home." - Ira Ungerleider on why TBS is the perfect network for "Angie Tribeca"

"We got to say 'shit' twice." - Rashida Jones on why being on TBS is so great

"When you fall and your instinct is fear. Your whole body clinches up. But a stuntman has to really relax. I was in pain the day after, but no stuntman would call what I did a stunt." - Andree Vermeulen on doing her own stunts

"There's no weak link. Everyone is funny in their own way. They take the material to an incredible new level that you never imagined." - Ira Ungerleider on the talented cast

"There was a scene where I had to ask a doctor, 'Dr. would you take a look at my mole?' Then there was an animal trainer between my legs who hands me a mole. And the mole is pooping on me." - Rashida Jones on the craziness on the Angie Tribeca set

"Everything I've ever done is funny." - Rashida Jones on her successful career in comedy shows

"We have to act. We know how to do nothing else." - Jere Burns on the need to be an actor

"I wanted to go to school for public policy and came close to quitting acting many times, many times. But I do feel like there are people who have to act." - Rashida Jones on the need to be an actor

"My parents wanted me to go to school for business, and I just thought, 'That's crazy.'" - Andree Vermeulen on the need to be an actor

"When I was a kid, I was a little bit awkward. I wasn't popular with the boys. Making people laugh was a way in with people." - Rashida Jones on how she got into comedy

"Why does every beautiful woman say she was awkward and unpopular when she was a girl?" - Jere Burns responding to Rashida's story

About Angie Tribeca

Real, brooding and shockingly alive, Angie Tribeca is the brainchild of Steve and Nancy Carell, who executive-produce the series through their Carousel Television. The series follows a squad of committed LAPD detectives who investigate the most serious cases, from the murder of a ventriloquist to a rash of baker suicides. At the center of Angie Tribeca is Rashida Jones (The Office, Parks and Recreation) giving the performance of a lifetime as a lone-wolf detective who is none too happy when partnered with J Geils, played by Hayes MacArthur (Life As We Know It, Go On). Jere Burns (Justified, Breaking Bad) plays the squad's apoplectic captain. Helping solve each complex case are detective Danny Tanner, played by Deon Cole (CONAN, Funny Business); Dr. Monica Scholls, the bespectacled, brainy and quirky medical examiner played by Andree Vermeulen (Upright Citizens Brigade, How to Train Your Dragon TV series); and Hoffman, Tanner's K9 German Shepard partner played by Jagger (Max).
