Two Powerful Women. One Unforgiving Rivalry. A Legacy at Stake: Netflix Unveils the Trailer of Akka

A kingdom built on loyalty. A legacy protected for generations. And a rivalry that threatens to destroy it all. Netflix has unveiled the trailer of Akka, bringing Keerthy Suresh and Radhika Apte together in a gripping face-off at the heart of an epic gangster saga driven by power, legacy, and revenge. Produced by YRF Entertainment and written and directed by Dharmaraj Shetty, Akka brings to life a visually distinctive world where women command authority and fight to protect their reign. The series is set to premiere on Netflix on October 30.

Offering a glimpse into the kingdom of Pernuru and its powerful houses, the trailer teases a world where women lead from the front and fiercely guard what is theirs. But beneath the strength and order that have defined the kingdom for generations, tensions are simmering. With an outsider challenging the legacy that has long ruled Pernuru, loyalties are tested, rivalries deepen, and old wounds resurface, pushing the balance that holds it together to its limits.

At the heart of Akka are Bhavani (Keerthy Suresh) and Rudra (Radhika Apte) - two formidable women whose differing ambitions and beliefs fuel a gripping rivalry. As their conflict threatens to disrupt the established order, the series explores themes of power, loyalty, family, and revenge. Led by Keerthy Suresh and Radhika Apte, the ensemble also features Tanvi Azmi, Mahesh Manjrekar, Anshuman Pushkar, and Monica Panwar, amongst others.

Tanya Bami, Series Head, Netflix India said, "At Netflix, we're always looking for stories that take audiences into distinctive worlds and introduce them to characters who stay with them. With Akka, audiences will enter the fictional world of Pernuru where women are not just part of the story, they are the power centre. Radhika Apte, Tanvi Azmi and Keerthy Suresh bring remarkable depth and nuance to their characters, making their strengths and contradictions feel deeply human. Akka is the creative vision of Aditya Chopra and our continued collaboration with Yash Raj Entertainment that reflects a shared ambition to bring distinctive Indian stories to audiences. We look forward to audiences exploring the conflict, the challenge, the many layers of Pernuru and the women who shape its destiny."

Dharmaraj Shetty, Writer and Director, added, "What drew me to Akka was the chance to give the gangster genre a world with its own rules, and to tell a large, entertaining saga through characters and relationships we don't often see at its centre. Pernuru is a world shaped by generations of women, where power, legacy, and rivalry play out in fresh and unexpected ways. Watching Keerthy and Radhika bring Bhavani and Rudra to life was incredibly exciting, and together with a fantastic ensemble, they have created characters that audiences will love, question, and root for. I am grateful to Aditya Chopra, Akshaye Widhani, Yogendra Mogre and the entire team at YRF Entertainment for believing in this story and helping us bring its ambitious world to life, and to Netflix for backing stories that are distinctive in their vision and scale."

Reflecting on stepping into the role of Bhavani, Keerthy Suresh said, "Bhavani is a woman who knows what she stands for and will go to great lengths to protect her legacy. What makes her interesting is that beneath her strength and authority are choices that are never easy, especially when the stakes are so high. The trailer offers a taste of the world she inhabits and the challenges that come her way. Working with Radhika was amazing because Bhavani and Rudra bring such different energies to the story, and their dynamic adds another layer of tension to the narrative. It's been wonderful partnering with YRF Entertainment to bring this story to life and with Netflix to take Akka to audiences across India and beyond. I hope audiences enjoy discovering the many sides of Bhavani as the story unfolds."

Speaking about Rudra and her experience on the series, Radhika Apte said, "Rudra is someone who refuses to be defined by the circumstances she finds herself in. She is fierce, has her own ambitions, and is willing to challenge the established order, which makes her a fascinating character to explore. What I enjoyed about Akka is that the conflict isn't simply about who holds power; it's also about the different beliefs, loyalties, and personal stakes that drive each character. It was exciting to see these contrasting worldviews come to life through Rudra and Bhavani, and an absolute joy to share the screen with Keerthy in bringing their intense face-off to life. I'm glad to have been part of this collaboration between Netflix and YRF Entertainment, and I look forward to audiences experiencing the intensity of this powerful story."

Akka marks the latest collaboration between Netflix and YRF Entertainment, following acclaimed titles such as The Romantics, The Railway Men, Maharaj, and Mandala Murders.
