Outta Jail, But Theyre Not Home Yet! Comedy Central Greenlights Production On "Halfway Home
Series To Premiere Early 2007
NEW YORK, March 27, 2006 -- COMEDY CENTRAL has greenlit production on "Halfway Home," an improvised half-hour narrative following the lives of a dysfunctional group of parolees living in a halfway house, it was announced today by Lauren Corrao, executive vice president, original programming and development, COMEDY CENTRAL. The network has ordered 10 episodes of the series and is set to premiere in early 2007.
The cast includes Kevin Ruf (Fun with Dick and Jane, Groundlings member), the house supervisor who is attempting to rehabilitate the misfits. Oscar Nunez (The Office, Reno 911!), a male prostitute who uses sex to get what he desires and Jessica Makinson (Joe Schmo 2, Trigger Happy TV), a drug trafficker who cant give up her old habits. Regan Burns (Oblivious, The Movie Club) is the house narc who has an uncontrollable obsession with fire. Octavia Spencer (Coach Carter, Spiderman), an armed robbery convict and Jordan Black (Punkd, Mad TV), a wanna-be terrorist who is really just a rich kid from California. The Halfway Home pilot was executive produced by Jay Martel, Damon Jones, who also directed, Ruf and Nunez.
Weve wanted to be in business with this cast for a long time and weve found the perfect setting, said Corrao. Centering the show around a group of convicted criminals living in a halfway house provides just the right amount of danger to their unique style of unpredictable improvised comedy.
If the shows Oz and Prison Break have shown us anything, its that the penal system is great for comedy, said Martel and Ruf. We plan to build on this tradition of hilarity.
Halfway Home will be executive produced by Jones, Nunez, Ruf and Martel and co-executive produced by Bruce Smith. Margy Yuspa will serve as executive in charge of production for COMEDY CENTRAL.
