NEW YORK, May 2 -- The N, the nighttime network for teens, surfs into summer with its newest original half-hour series Beyond the Break (formerly Makaha Surf) produced by MarVista Entertainment and Brookwell McNamara Entertainment (BME) in collaboration with The N. Shot entirely on location in Oahu, Hawaii, the 20-episode series premieres on air with an hour- long special on Friday, June 2 at 8:30 p.m. (ET) on The N. The first two weeks of the series will premiere at 8:30 p.m. (ET) until Friday, June 16 when it moves to its regular time period at 8:00 p.m. (ET).

Beyond the Break is an intense dramatic series combining surf and sun as it drops in on the competitive world of professional surfing. Four passionate women with diverse backgrounds will pursue their dreams of becoming professional surfers. But in order to remain afloat, each of them must overcome issues to capture surf stardom from WaveSync, a struggling surf company eager to reinvigorate itself.

David Chokachi plays Justin Healy, a former surfing legend and Pipeline Masters Champ who's been given a second chance to right his wrongs as a coach for WaveSync. Justin is hired to help bring the company back on top as he mentors the women in both their personal and professional endeavors. As Justin grapples with his own challenges, he must take on a new role as coach and confidant for a household of four women with four different personalities.

"Beyond the Break embodies every teen's dream -- to live on the beach, get paid and surf in Hawaii, America's paradise," said Kenny Miller, Vice President, Programming and Production, The N. "The series showcases the highs and lows of leaving home and confronting the reality that pursuing your dreams is much harder than you ever imagined."

The N will also be offering exclusive Beyond the Break content online at http://www.the-n.com. Fans will have VIP access to exclusive clips, episodic information, cast profiles and character descriptions. Available immediately, viewers can "Meet the Stars" of Beyond the Break online and log on for fun facts, a photo flipbook, a downloadable IM icon and wallpaper for each of the series regulars.

On Friday, June 2, The N will unveil "Beyond the Break: The Webisodes," a narrative original online companion series that explores the characters' back stories and takes a closer look at relationships within the WaveSync house. New webisodes will premiere online after the conclusion of each televised episode along with exclusive sneak peeks of upcoming episodes.

The cast features: Tiffany Hines as Birdie (Grey's Anatomy), Natalie Ramsey as Lacey (Cruel Intentions 3, Pleasantville), Suzie Pollard as Dawn (Hack), Ross Thomas as Bailey (Cutting Edge 2, What's Bugging Seth), Michael Copon as Vin (One Tree Hill) and newcomers Jason Tam as Shoe and Sonya Balmores as Kai.

* Birdie Scott (Tiffany Hines): Birdie is a bit of a rookie surfer, but since she left college against her parent's wishes to pursue surfing, she must work to pay back the loan her parents took out for her education.

* Lacey Farmer (Natalie Ramsey): Moving to Hawaii is a drastic life change for Lacey, who cuts the ties to her old life in order to get a fresh start with WaveSync. But it's not certain whether her past will prevent her from achieving her dreams.

* Dawn Preston (Suzie Pollard): Dawn realizes the freedom of being out on her own, but that freedom also comes with responsibility. Dawn is an incredible surfer with a party attitude that may interfere with her becoming the best. And being an heiress won't necessarily buy her out of trouble.

* Kai Kealoha (Sonya Balmores): Kai is the only local on the team. She knows the most about the island but has a lot to learn about life.

Created by Michael D. Jacobs and BME's David Brookwell and Sean McNamara (That's So Raven, Even Stevens, Raise Your Voice), MarVista and BME will both serve as producers for the new half-hour series with MarVista handling the worldwide distribution. Writers on the series include Matt Dearborn who served as the co-producer of Beverly Hills 90210 and whose previous writing credits include Just for Kicks and Romeo for Nickelodeon, Phil of the Future, Even Stevens, and The Secret World of Alex Mack.

Beyond the Break is the first series to go into production under the September 2004 multi-series production and development deal signed between MarVista Entertainment, BME and The N. Executive Producers of the series are Michael D. Jacobs, Fernando Szew, David Brookwell, Sean McNamara, Matt Dearborn and TalkStory Productions.
