|
LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The latest development news, culled from recent wire reports:
Looking to keep track of all the various projects in development? Click here to visit our signature "Devwatch" section. There visitors can view our listings by network, genre, studio and even development stage (ordered to pilot, cast-contingent, script, etc.). It's updated every day!
BROTHERS & SISTERS (ABC) - Newcomer Luke Grimes is reportedly in final negotiations to play Ryan, the latest long-lost member of the Walker clan. Said character was revealed in the show's second season finale and has subsequently become a hot topic during its current season. It's not clear when Grimes's first episode will air.
IN TREATMENT (HBO) - Hope Davis ("Six Degrees") and John Mahoney ("Frasier") have joined the cast of the show's second season. They'll play two of Paul Weston's (Gabriel Byrne) patients - Mira, a high-powered malpractice lawyer and a former patient of Weston's who blames him for being single and childless; and Bill, a self-confident CEO who finds his life getting away from him. Presumably like the first season, each patient will be the focus of their own weekly installment. No other specifics however were released.
LIVE LIKE YOU'RE DYING (CBS, New!) - "Survivor" host Jeff Probst has booked a pilot order from the Eye for a new reality project which takes a person who has been given a terminal diagnosis and gives them "the last adventure of their life." Probst detailed the "inspirational rather than depressing" project to Entertainment Weekly today, including the fact he'll host and executive produce alongside "Survivor" chief Mark Burnett and "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition's" Denise Cramsey. Said effort, which will film in January after season 18 of "Survivor" wraps, reportedly will include "reunions with lost friends or formerly feuding family members, a 'legacy moment' that will ensure their name carries on forever, and living out a personal dream."
PRIVILEGED (The CW) - The netlet has quietly ordered two additional scripts of the newcomer, which stars Joanna Garcia as a bright-eyed Yale grad who becomes the live-in tutor to wealthy and spoiled twins in Palm Beach. The show's most recent installment on October 6 drew a modest 2.3 million viewers and a 1.1 rating among adults 18-49 - a growth of over 20% in both categories from its September 30 episode (1.9 million, 0.9 rating among adults 18-49).
SUPERNATURAL (The CW) - Mark Rolston ("CSI: Miami") has been tapped as the show's latest recurring antagonist. He'll play Alastair, a "calm and composed demon with a placid smile that belies his simmering sadism and evil" hell bent on terrorizing the Winchester brothers. His first installment is set to air on November 13.
TIME HEALS (TNT) - Jeffrey Nordling ("24") is the latest addition to the drama pilot, about a strong but caring director of nursing (Jada Pinkett Smith) at Charlotte Mercy Hospital in North Carolina. He'll play Tom Wakefield, the director of medicine who is loved by his patients and gets along with Smith's character. Christina Moore and David Julian Hirsh also star in the hour, which comes from Sony Pictures Television and creator John Masius.
UNTITLED ROB RIGGLE PROJECT (CBS, New!) - Rob Riggle is the latest "The Daily Show With Jon Stewart" correspondent to ink a talent holding/development deal with CBS and studio sibling CBS Paramount Network Television. The pact calls for the group to develop a new comedy around the actor, which may or may not may touch upon his background as a major in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve. Riggle will executive produce any resulting project alongside Principato-Young Entertainment principals Peter Principato and Paul Young. Fellow "Daily Show" colleagues Jason Jones and Samantha Bee inked a similar deal with CBS last week.
