Development Update: Monday, August 24
By The Futon Critic Staff (TFC)

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The latest development news, culled from recent wire reports:

Looking to keep track of all the various projects in development? Click here to visit our signature "Devwatch" section. There visitors can view our listings by network, genre, studio and even development stage (ordered to pilot, cast-contingent, script, etc.). It's updated every day!

THE GAME (The CW) - Negotiations are reportedly still going on between CBS Television Studios and BET to resume production on the canceled comedy. The cable channel currently carries repeats of the series as well as its parent show, "Girlfriends." The options on the "Game" actors however have expired, so new deals will have to be reached should the series be revived.

HEROES (NBC) - Entertainment Weekly reports Jayma Mays is set to return to the series for a one-episode stint. The "Glee" star recurred on the show's first season as the doomed love interest of Masi Oka's character.

REX IS NOT YOUR LAWYER (NBC, New!) - Andrew Leeds and David Lampson ("Situation: Comedy") have booked a script commitment from the Peacock and Universal Media Studios for a new drama about "a lawyer who suffers panic attacks and takes up coaching clients to represent themselves in court." Barry Schindel is set to surprise the duo and executive produce alongside BermanBraun's Gail Berman and Lloyd Braun. It's understood "Rex" was originally sold to NBC back in 2007 but was sidelined by the WGA strike. BermanBraun subsequently took a stab at reviving the show under the Peacock's new regime.

STEVEN SEAGAL: LAWMAN (A&E) - A&E Television Networks has filed a federal lawsuit against Genuine Entertainment over the latter's claims the cable channel stole the idea from the company. The project, due later this year, "focuses on the 57-year-old actor's real life experiences including duties as a deputy sheriff in Louisiana." A&E seeks a court declaration that it cannot be held liable for making the show despite Genuine's insistence that not only was the concept lifted but also that Seagal's involvement was contingent on Genuine's participation. Genuine has yet to comment on said development.
