LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The CW has asked the producers of "Melrose Place" and "The Vampire Diaries" for additional scripts, an early sign more episodes of each could be on their way.
Sources at the netlet confirmed the news this morning.
Said developments come despite different ratings fortunes for each series. "Diaries," which has received a nine-script order, opened as the netlet's most-watched series ever. "Melrose," which is a go for six more scripts, conversely lost almost a third of its lead-in "90210's" audience this week.
The CW nevertheless is high on the much-anticipated addition of Heather Locklear starting November 17 and are said to be happy with the show's overall creative direction.
Meanwhile, "One Tree Hill" has quietly received a full season order. The veteran soap, which underwent a major casting overhaul this season, initially opened with a 13-episode order.
