New Travel Channel Adventure Series Brings Us Back to Our Roots - Awakening "The Wild Within"

Let the hunt begin. New Travel Channel personality, Steven Rinella, embarks on an exciting adventure to reconnect to the wild places around the corner and around the globe in the original series, THE WILD WITHIN, premiering Sunday, January 9 at 9PM. Rinella is everyman -- combining today's sense of wit, streetsmarts and style with yesterday's skills to thrive in the outdoors. THE WILD WITHIN is the story of one man's unique and powerful connection to the food he provides for his family and friends. He celebrates our deepest connection to the earth, to its animals and the places where they live, to the people he hunts with, to the act of feasting -- and to the FEAST of life itself.

Whether submerged in a city or the most remote wilderness, Rinella gets his food from the world's "first supermarket." He grew up hunting, he lives to hunt, and he is a perfect embodiment of the hunter inside all of us. He's a writer, husband and father with extraordinary passion and vast respect for the natural world, which he demonstrates at every turn. In each episode, Rinella takes viewers along on his unpredictable quest, sharing every step of the way as he rises and falls, succeeds and fails, and pushes himself further outside his comfort zone.

"Since we live in such a fast-paced world, we're losing our real connections to our past, our food, and each other. But a different world, one that's true and real is still within our reach," says Rinella. "And once you touch nature, you're changed forever."

THE WILD WITHIN is a show about a lifestyle -- one that's not so far from the life all of us lead -- but far enough to require someone as amazing as Steven Rinella to truly live it. It's about feeling the connection to where our food comes from, to walking in its path and going face-to-face with it at the moment of truth. It's about the hunt -- and how we learn as much about ourselves as we do about the animals we seek. In the first episode, armed with a rifle and the goal to stock his family freezer, Rinella heads to the remote rainforest of Prince of Wales Island, Alaska. Convinced that "nature's grocery store" is all a man needs, he and his brother break trail and scale the vertical cliffs of a 3,000-foot mountain to hunt black-tailed deer in the same conditions of our ancestors.

Whether he's gathering his family's winter food in Alaska, climbing under the Golden Gate Bridge for eggs, snagging an octopus off a reef in Hawaii or fighting the raging Missouri River the way Lewis and Clark did, Steven Rinella's quest celebrates being alive in the moment -- THE WILD WITHIN.

THE WILD WITHIN is produced by Zero Point Zero for the Travel Channel. For Zero Point Zero, the executive producers are Lydia Tenaglia and Chris Collins. For Travel Channel, Stone Roberts is the executive producer, Amy Emmerich is VP, Programming and Development and Fred Graver is SVP, Programming and Development.
