SHOWTIME(R) PRESENTS THE WORLD PREMIERE OF "SPRING BROKE" FROM EXECUTIVE PRODUCER ALEX GIBNEY
Premiering Friday, March 25th At 9 PM ET/PT,
The Documentary Explores The Evolution Of The Spring Break Phenomenon From The 1960s To The 1990s
LOS ANGELES, CA - February 26, 2016 - On Friday, March 25th at 9 p.m. ET/PT, SHOWTIME will premiere SPRING BROKE, a documentary about the raucous history of the infamous spring vacation revelries in Daytona, Florida. The annual gathering started in the early 60s and by the 1980s led to the arrival of tens of thousands of college students, lured by music, sun, endless parties and eventually, the hope to make it onto MTV.
From executive producers Alex Gibney (Going Clear) and Stacey Offman (Death Row Stories,) SPRING BROKE chronicles the growth of the Spring Break industry over three decades. Starting with a handful of local promoters in the early 60s and growing until Daytona experienced a financial surge the equivalent of the Super Bowl, the documentary captures how Spring Break became a magnet for corporate America. It reveals how cigarette, beer and suntan lotion peddlers along with hotel owners and rock band promoters competed for the cash of America's 18-24 year-olds. When MTV burst onto the scene and embraced spring break, this youth migration became part of the wider culture. SPRING BROKE documents the rise and fall of Daytona and how it became the "Spring Break Capital of the World." The film is produced by Bungalow Media + Entertainment, in association with Taral Productions. Allan Cohen, Robert Friedman and Jennie Amias serve as producers.
