Richard Dormer and Jodi Balfour star in innovative new BBC One and Cinemax drama series, "Rellik"

Filming has commenced on a major 6 x 60 thriller series, Rellik, created and written by Harry and Jack Williams (The Missing, Liar) which tells the story of a serial killer in reverse.

Rellik is produced by New Pictures and Two Brothers Pictures for BBC One and Cinemax in association with all3media International who are handling international sales.

What makes a serial killer? Or the cop who is compelled to relentlessly track them down? What are the events that form a person into the human being they will become - killer or cop?

Rellik (killer spelled backwards) is a structural conceit which turns the serial killer story on its head. The perpetrator is caught before the drama moves backwards in time to the very beginning - the crime itself and ultimately the killer. The search for the killer provides the backbone of the story but the damaged and disfigured Met detective, Gabriel Markham, played by Richard Dormer (Game of Thrones, Fortitude), is at its centre. Enigmatic, unrelenting and charismatic, Gabriel is propelled in an obsessive hunt for a serial killer who left a mark on him both physically and mentally. Gabriel's partner is Elaine, played by Jodi Balfour (The Crown, Bomb Girls, Quarry). She is a bright and intense detective, eager to please.

Dormer and Balfour are joined by a stellar cast including Rosalind Eleazar (Christine), Paterson Joseph (Isaac), Paul Rhys (Patrick), Michael Shaeffer (Steven) and Lærke Winther (Lisa) among others.

Harry and Jack Williams, Writers and Executive Producers for Two Brothers Pictures, said: "We are really pleased to be working with the BBC again and to be partnering with Cinemax for the first time. Rellik is a dark thriller tonally very different to anything we've done before and we're looking forward to bringing it to the screen"

Willow Grylls, Executive Producer for New Pictures, says: "We are delighted to be working with the brilliant Harry and Jack Williams and Two Brothers Pictures on this bold, original and twisting thriller after our successful collaboration of two series of The Missing."

Christopher Aird, BBC Executive Producer, says: "Jack and Harry are two of the most imaginative TV writers around and we're thrilled BBC One is home for Rellik, their boldest series yet."

The executive producers are Willow Grylls, Charlie Pattinson and Elaine Pyke for New Pictures, Harry and Jack Williams for Two Brothers Pictures, and Christopher Aird for the BBC. Created and written by Harry and Jack Williams, with episode four written by Marston Bloom. Sam Miller (Guerrilla, Luther) is the lead director and executive producer, with Hans Herbots also directing. Producer is Chris Clough.
