AMAZON STUDIOS GREENLIGHTS PROVOCATIVE DRAMA SERIES "THE POWER" FROM SISTER PICTURES BASED ON THE AWARD-WINNING, INTERNATIONAL LITERARY PHENOMENON BY NAOMI ALDERMAN, WITH DIRECTOR REED MORANO

The Power will be produced by Sister Pictures and Executive Produced by Jane Featherstone (Broadchurch, Chernobyl, Utopia), Naomi de Pear (The Bisexual, Flowers), Naomi Alderman and Morano (The Handmaid's Tale). The series will be produced by Tim Bricknell (Trust, Taboo) and shot on location around the world.

The Power will premiere globally on Amazon Prime Video in over 200 countries and territories

PASADENA, Calif., February 13, 2019 - Amazon Studios today announced it has ordered the contemporary global ten-part thriller The Power. Written and created by award-winning British author Naomi Alderman, The Power is based on Alderman's international best-selling novel, will be produced by Sister Pictures and is Executive Produced by Jane Featherstone ("Broadchurch", "The Split," "Utopia"), Naomi de Pear ("The Bisexual," "Flowers"), Naomi Alderman, and Reed Morano ("The Handmaid's Tale"), who will also direct. The series is produced by Tim Bricknell ("Trust," "Taboo") and will be shot on location around the world. Going into production in 2019, The Power is the latest UK Prime Original drama series to go into production, and will premiere on Amazon Prime Video worldwide in over 200 countries and territories.

Lauded as one of the best books of the year by The New York Times, the Washington Post, the Los Angeles Times, NPR, Entertainment Weekly and the San Francisco Chronicle, The Power was amongst President Barack Obama's list of his favourite books from 2017. Longlisted for the 2017 Orwell Prize, The Power was also the winner of the 2017 Bailey's Women's Prize for Fiction. Already translated into more than twenty-five languages, The Power has found global appeal and speaks to a movement that is sweeping across the world.

The world of The Power is our world, but for one twist of nature. Suddenly, and without warning, all teenage girls in the world develop the power to electrocute people at will. It's hereditary, it's inbuilt, and it can't be taken away from them.

Over our first season and beyond, the series will follow its cast of remarkable characters from London to Arizona, Nigeria to Moldova, as the Power evolves from a tingle in teenagers' collarbones to a complete reversal of the power balance of the world. Everything's about to change, for everyone.

"The Power is a timely, provocative series that will powerfully resonate with the book's passionate fans worldwide," said Jennifer Salke, Head of Amazon Studios. "We're delighted to be working with renowned writer Naomi Alderman, the talented team at Sister Pictures led by Jane Featherstone and the visionary Reed Morano, to bring this thrilling, multi-layered series to our Prime Video members around the world."

"I'm thrilled beyond words that The Power will be broadcast around the world by Amazon," said Naomi Alderman. "Jennifer Salke and her team have had a huge and obvious passion for the project from the very first meeting - as well as a vision for how the show can reach the widest possible audience. The story is a global one, about the lives of women and men everywhere in the world, so I'm hugely excited that The Power will be sparking conversation and debate essentially... everywhere. We're going to make something revolutionary and, dare I say it, electrifying."

"From the moment we read Naomi Alderman's propulsive, illuminating and ground-breaking novel, the whole team at Sister Pictures knew we wanted to work with her to bring it to life," said Executive Producers Jane Featherstone and Naomi de Pear, Sister Pictures. "We are so delighted that together we have found our home at Amazon and the perfect director in Reed, where we will be able to make a show that foregrounds Naomi's extraordinary characters as they journey through the biggest reversal in human history."

"Naomi's story is like nothing I've seen and made me feel things so viscerally that I have honestly never felt," said Director and Executive Producer Reed Morano. "I cannot wait to dig deep with Naomi, Sister Pictures, and Amazon Studios into this profound and masterful vision of the complex dynamics of our world reversed."
