"THIS IS STAND-UP"
TWO-HOUR DOCUMENTARY FILM CHARTS THE LIFE AND WORK OF THE PROFESSIONAL STAND-UP COMEDIAN WORLD PREMIERES WITH LIMITED COMMERCIAL INTERRUPTION ON SUNDAY, APRIL 12TH AT 10PM ET/PT ON COMEDY CENTRAL
Featuring an all star cast of comedians
New York, April 7, 2020 - This Is Stand-Up documentary pulls back the curtain on this cherished, but perhaps little understood art-form. The film shows these extraordinary artists as the brilliant, fragile and socially important people they really are. From the heady heights to the crushing lows, from the struggle for stage time to the relentless touring, from jokes, to bits, to stage personas, audiences see and hear the experiences from some of the most famous, respected and up and coming stand-ups in the country. This Is Stand-Up, a two-hour documentary, will have its world premiere with limited commercial interruption on Easter Sunday, April 12th at 10pm ET/PT on Comedy Central.
"'This is Stand-Up' is at heart a love letter to these amazing people," says Producer and Director Paul Toogood. "Many years spending time and building relationships has hopefully enabled us to deliver some unique and fascinating insight into these loved, but oddly underestimated artists."
"Their work is perhaps the most pure and immediate art form" adds Producer and Director Lloyd Stanton. "Stand-ups deliver joy, yet also address the most taboo subjects in culture, demanding an immediate physical reaction from the audience. It's very special."
This Is Stand-Up features comedians Judd Apatow, David A. Arnold, Dave Attell, Maria Bamford, Bill Bellamy, Gina Brillon, Cocoa Brown, Cedric The Entertainer, Tommy Davidson, Mike Epps, Jamie Foxx, Gilbert Gottfried, Eddie Griffin, Tiffany Haddish, Kevin Hart, D. L. Hughley, Mia Jackson, Jim Jefferies, Jessica Kirson, Bert Kreischer, Bobby Lee, Carol Leiffer, George Lopez, Sebastian Maniscalco, Jay Mohr, Jim Norton, Rick Overton, Paul Provenza, Chris Rock, Bob Saget, Jerry Seinfeld, Garry Shandling, Sarah Silverman, Owen Smith, Kira Soltanovich, Beth Stelling, Taylor Tomlinson, Theo Von, and Keenen Ivory Wayans.
This Is Stand-Up is Executive Produced by Bruce Evans of Mountain Men Films and Jonathon Komack Martin of The Komack Company. Produced and Directed by Paul Toogood and Lloyd Stanton of 4045 Films. Their previous films include: Dying Laughing, Something From Nothing: The Art Of Rap, Catching Hell In The City Of Angels, Wizard's Way, Miss Angela and worldwide television series including The Great Songwriters and Songbook.
Next month, Call Your Mother, a documentary about comedians' mothers taking center stage, will also make its world premiere on Mother's Day, Sunday, May 10 at 10:00pm ET/PT on Comedy Central. The film is directed by Academy Award-nominated filmmakers Heidi Ewing and Rachel Grady (Jesus Camp, Freakonomics: The Movie, Norman Lear: Just Another Version of You).
