ALASKA (ABC) - Peter Elkoff has been tapped as showrunner of the new Hilary Swank-led drama series. He'll transition from said role on fellow 20th Television-produced "The Resident," leaving Andrew Chapman as its sole showrunner. (Deadline.com)
BLACK CAKE (Hulu) - Adrienne Warren has scored a lead role on the upcoming drama series, which has also added Andrew Dosunmu as director of the debut installment. Warren's Benny Bennett is "an artist and empath who loves with her whole heart, but mysterious circumstances have kept her estranged from her entire family for eight years. When Benny is summoned home by her brother to listen to a message left by their late mother, she is forced to face the ghosts from her past that have kept her from her family for all these years." DEVIANT'S WAR, THE (Amazon, New!) - Matthew López is developing a limited series at the streamer based on Eric Cervini's bestseller, subtitled "The Homosexual vs. The United States of America." The book "tells the story of Frank Kameny, a Department of Defense astronomer in the 1950s who became a leading figure in the fight for LGBTQ civil rights when he sued the federal government after being fired because he was gay." Amazon Studios and Brad Pitt's Plan B Entertainment are producing. (Variety.com)
FEAR THE WALKING DEAD (AMC) - Alycia Debnam-Carey has confirmed her exit from the series after seven seasons, following the events of Sunday's season finale. (@alyciajasmin, 5/29)
HISTORY OF A PLEASURE SEEKER (Hulu) - Crystal Yu has been cast in the drama pilot as Zhen Zhao, "who was born in Shanghai and sold into a Geisha house in Tokyo. She fled to the West in her teens and and is now Europe's leading beautician, with her skills in body transformation second to none." (Deadline.com)
NATIONAL PARKS (2022 VERSION) (ABC) - Rashad Raisani has signed a multi-year overall deal with 20th Television, home to his drama pilot for the Alphabet. He also serves as an executive producer of fellow studio-based "9-1-1: Lone Star." (Deadline.com)
POKER FACE (Peacock) - Danielle Macdonald has booked a role on the top secret Natasha Lyonne-led series. (Variety.com)
POWER, THE (Amazon) - Leslie Mann and Tim Robbins have exited the streamer's Naomi Alderman adaptation, which was shut down during the COVID-19 pandemic. It's understood both actors since became unavailable due to other scheduling commitments. Said roles will be recast and their completed scenes reshot. (Deadline.com, 5/30)
