Filming Wraps for 'The Crystal Cuckoo,' the New Series Starring Catalina Sopelana, Alex García, Itziar Ituño, Iván Massagué, Tomás del Estal, and Alfons Nieto
Netflix has announced today that The Crystal Cuckoo, the new six-episode series produced by Atípica Films, has ended production, which took place in Extremadura and Madrid.
The series is based on the bestselling novel by Spanish writer Javier Castillo, published by Suma (Penguin Random House), and stars Catalina Sopelana (Sky Rojo, The Neighbor), Álex García (Holy Family, The Inmortal), Itziar Ituño (Berlin, The Money Heist), Iván Massagué (The Platform), Tomás del Estal (Gangs of Galicia), and Alfons Nieto (Burning Body, Elite). The adaptation is led by Jesús Mesas and Javier Andrés Roig (Snow Girl, Estoy vivo), and directed by Laura Alvea (Animas) and Juan Miguel del Castillo (The Gypsy Bride).
Clara Merlo (Catalina Sopelana), a first-year resident doctor, suffers a fatal heart attack that forces her to undergo a heart transplant. While recovering she feels the need to meet her donor, which leads her to a small inland town to learn about the life of the young man who gave her his heart. Clara thus delves into a place full of secrets, a mystery that extends over twenty years, and a closed-off town where, on the very day of her arrival, a baby disappears in a public park.
