Facing Tough Thursday Competition

October 17, 2006 (Burbank, CA) - Since its launch, The CW has improved over The WB through the first four weeks of the season in the network's target demo of adults 18-34 (1.8/5, +13%) and women 18-34 (2.2/6, +10%). The CW mirrors The WB's scheduling model with 6 nights and 13 hours of primetime programming.

This week, three of The CW's series, "Gilmore Girls" "America's Next Top Model," and "One Tree Hill" climbed to reach new ratings highs this season in key demos, and "Smallville" and "Supernatural" also built over last week's delivery. (see nightly highlights below)

Through the CW's launch, series formerly on UPN have moved to a new local station in more than two-thirds of the U.S., while series formerly on The WB have transitioned to new stations in nearly one-third of the U.S.

Tuesday 10/10/06

"Gilmore Girls" reached season highs in adults 18-34 (2.4/7), women 18-34 (3.9/11), adults 18-49 (2.1/6) and women 18-49 (3.2/8). Week to week, "Gilmore Girls" improved by 9% in adults 18-34, 15% in women 18-34, 11% in adults 18-49 and 10% in women 18-49.

"Gilmore Girls" ranked second in the hour with its target demo of women 18-34, behind only "Dancing With The Stars." "Gilmore Girls" was third from 8:00-9:00PM among adults 18-34 and women 18-49.

With "Gilmore Girls" as its lead-in, "Veronica Mars" scored impressive gains versus its year ago telecast on UPN (10/12/05) following "Top Model," up 15% in adults 18-34 (1.5/4), 28% in women 18-34 (2.3/6), 6% in women 18-49 (1.9/5).

Overall, The CW was second on the night in its target demo of women 18-34 (3.1/8).

Wednesday 10/11/06

"America's Next Top Model" delivered its season best performance in all key demos and viewers, including adults 18-34 (3.4/11), adults 18-49 (2.7/8), women 18-34 (5.1/15), women 18-49 (4.0/10) and viewers (5.5mil). "One Tree Hill" scored its best ratings of the season in its target demos of adults 18-34 (2.2/6) and women 18-34 (3.1/8).

Competitively, "Top Model" won the 8-9PM hour, beating all competition in The CW's target demos of adults 18-34 (3.4/11) and women 18-34 (5.1/15),. "Top Model" ranked second in the hour among women 18-49 (4.0/10).

"Top Model" gained over last week's episode by 6% in adults 18-34, 11% in women 18-34, 4% in adults 18-49, 8% in women 18-49 and 5% in viewers.

"One Tree Hill" posted week-to-week growth in adults 18-34 (10%), adults 18-49 (14%, 1.6/4), women 18-34 (11%), women 18-49 (17%, 2.1/5) and viewers (5%, 3.3mil).

With "Top Model" as its lead-in, "One Tree Hill" is up in all key categories versus its performance a year ago on The WB (10/12/05), including adults 18-34 (16%), women 18-34 (15%), adults 18-49 (14%), women 18-49 (5%) and viewers (5%).

"America's Next Top Model" and "One Tree Hill" combined to lift The CW to second on Wednesday night among adults 18-34 (2.8/8) and women 18-34 (4.1/11).

The CW's Wednesday line-up remains an improvement over both UPN and The WB on the same night a year ago (10/11/05) in all key demos. Compared to The WB's Wednesday, The CW is scoring increases of 75% in adults 18-34, 71% in women 18-34, 62% in adults 18-49 and 67% in women 18-49. Versus UPN's year ago Wednesday, The CW is up 27% in adults 18-34, 21% in women 18-34, 5% in adults 18-49 and 3% in women 18-49.

Thursday 10/12/06

Both of The CW's Thursday dramas, "Smallville" and "Supernatural," delivered week-to-week growth in viewers and key demos despite facing increasingly tougher competition.

Compared to last week, "Smallville" gained 9% in adults 18-34 (2.5/8), 5% in adults 18-49 (2.1/6), 28% in women 18-34 (2.3/7), 11% in women 18-49 (2.0/5) and 9% in viewers (4.9million). "Smallville" hit its season best performance in women 18-34.

"Supernatural" posted increases over last week of 7% in adults 18-49 (1.6/4), 12% in women 18-34 (1.9/5), 21% in women 18-49 (1.7/4) and 15% in viewers (3.8mil).
