LEFTOVERS, THE (HBO; W: Damon Lindelof & Tom Perrotta; D: Peter Berg) - Peter Berg (Battleship) has signed on to direct the drama pilot, based on Tom Perrotta's book, which asks what would happen if The Rapture actually took place and millions of people just disappeared from the Earth. He'll also executive produce the hour alongside Sarah Aubrey as well as the previously announced Perrotta, Damon Lindelof, Ron Yerxa and Albert Berger. (Deadline.com)


MISSIONARY, THE (HBO; W: Charles Randolph & Malcolm Gladwell; D: Baltasar Kormakur) - Gayle Rankin has booked a role on the drama pilot, about Roy (Benjamin Walker), a young American missionary who gets caught up in Cold War intrigue while helping a young woman escape East Berlin in the late 1960s. She'll play Molly, "the traditional, religious wife of Sherwood Elbridge (Jesse Plemons) - one with an affectionately exasperated relationship to her preacher Roy - but we soon discover she has more on the ball than the men around her." UNTITLED TAD QUILL PROJECT (CBS/CTS; W: Tad Quill; D: James Burrows) - Kristin Chenoweth ("GCB") has joined the cast of the comedy pilot, about Jack (Matthew Broderick), a widower father who raises his 12-year-old son while jumping back into the dating pool. She'll play his cute, judgmental sister Marnie, who works as a waitress, in the multi-camera project. (Deadline.com)

Jackson will reprise his "JAG" role of A.J.
